MOUNTAIN JOY COTTAGE #8 - LITTLE BEAR

  • Mountain Joy Cottage #8, Little Bear, was built in the early 1840's aNd was the Medford residence of the Iron Duff/Crabtree area and was moved to its current location in the early 1+50's. This cottage has exposed log interior walls that gives it a unique appeal. This cottage has interesting details that we have added to remind us of the black bears that our native to our area.

    Originally the homestead of Maggie Setzer, for whom Maggie Valley was named, the land that Mountain Joy sits is a special place. You will become enchanted with it’s mountain charm, family atmosphere and character. We offer all the modern conveniences you would expect with the year-round access and seclusion that very few can offer.

    Enjoy the peaceful country setting of our cottages. We have one, two and four bedroom cottages all equipped with wood burning fireplaces, cable TV, internet and kitchens ready to cook a home made meal. Outside the porches have rocking chairs so you can enjoy your morning coffee or enjoy the sunset on the mountains in the evening. Our glass enclosed outdoor pool (seasonal) offers a delightful place to relax.

    Mountain Joy Cottages are centrally located in the heart of Maggie Valley just one block up Setzer Cove Road with easy access to all of the area attractions. We are just minutes off of the Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is loaded with craft, antique and gift shops. The great outdoors offers horseback riding, golf on area mountain courses, trout fishing in streams, white water rafting and scenic drives. Snow skiing and tubing is available for the entire family at Cataloochee Ski Area. Nightlife includes everything from Jazz to Bluegrass, clogging or dinner entertainment. Our cottages are just a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, AshEville and The Biltmore Estate, Cherokee and the Indian Reservation and Harrah’s Casino and historic downtown Waynesville.

    Whatever the season, Mountain Joy Cottages and the Great Smokies have something very special to offer. From the wildflowers of spring, to the blaze of colors in the fall or the serenity of winter, come visit and make lasting memories at Mountain Joy Cottages.

Amazing Stay!!

We had an absolutely amazing stay in Maggie Valley!! 100% recommend this cabin! The Elk came through every day for a visit and the cabin was cozy and comfortable. We will definitely be back soon.

Small problems make a big difference

We stayed in this same place in Oct 22, and noted some problems then. Sinks not draining properly, only a few clothes hangers, coffee maker has wrong carafe and made a mess when we tried to brew coffee. These problems still exist. Oh, and now they have a new policy of not providing paper products or cleaning supplies. We had to make a trip to buy our own. For the price, we will stay somewhere else next visit. It's too bad because the bed is super comfortable.

Great place for a famioy reunion

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is a great property. Along with family members, we occupied 8 of 12-13 cabins. The grounds are lovely with a huge area for kids to play and grown-ups to act like kids and a fire ring to gather around and enjoy s'mores. During the summer months a very nice pool is available. Everyone was quite happy with their cabins.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Upon walking into our cabin, there was feces under and on top of toilet lid. Covers appeared dirty. Bring your own laundry detergent, there will be three wash rags for the entire stay.

We had some trouble with the WIFI but it was corrected immediately. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen nicely equipped and we even had a visit from an elk one evening.

Enjoyed

The cabin was exactly like the pictures. It is a pleasant alcove of 12 cabins surrounding a beautiful green space with a great playground for the kids , a beautiful covered pool and mountains all around. An addition was the wild Elk that wandered in to eat crab apples right off the tree. A fantastic property.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall the experience was great. We had a problem opening the door we called the office and someone came out ASAP and gave us an extra key and showed us how to unlock the door. The doorknob should be replaced so no one has to struggle to unlock the door. The only other thing that should be replaced is the mattress. It is horrible. A good nights sleep is very important to an enjoyable stay.There was a strong smell of smoke from the fireplace especially when you first walk in. That should be taken care of.

Cute Nice Small Cabin

My wife and I stayed in this cute, little cabin. It had everything that we needed. 1 bedroom with a King bed, 1 bath with all the necessities. We enjoyed our stay. We mostly sat around enjoying the mountains and shelling pecans. The scenery is wonderful and it is a good place for a couple to get away in!

Got there on a Sat afternoon and no way to checkin or contact the management. Fortunately were able to peer in a window and get an emergency contact number to get our checkin info. pretty stressful beginning.

My first mountain vacation

Weekend at Little Bear

I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I stayed at Little Bear for four nights. I found the cabin to be too dark, stuffy, and uncomfortable. The bed, in particular, was extremely uncomfortable. I was also surprised that, when I went to check out, the office staff were not wearing masks. I wouldn't recommend this cabin.

Right off the main road so there is noise from motorcycles and cars but it stops around 8pm and doesn't start again until after 9am. So overall the road noise was not an issue. We had an issue with the cleanliness and the cleaning crew leaving something of significant value from the previous renter that they should have seen. Bed sheets were dirty and the bathroom was dirty. Overall the place was pretty good and I would definitely go back. I just think the management company needs to find a new cleaning crew.

Nice peaceful place

Overall nice only had 3 rags and towels for a 2 night stay also no hand soap and only a half roll of tp other than that we haf a very nice stay it's a simple cabin but all we needed we would recommend to stay again.
