A very nice pub with beautiful accommodation, we were upgraded. However this is our 2nd visit and both times we felt the pub lacked atmosphere. It was freezing on Saturday when we arrived but the log fire was not lit, just the gas effect log fire which did not give much heat. We quite often stay in this area but although the staff were lovely and the room very cosy and warm for me its about atmosphere as I don't want to sit in an empty pub all night - sorry :-( but it would not be my first choice on a return visit to the area.

Great location in a little hamlet

Booked for one night, room ready on arrival and the room was superb. Great country inn, friendly staff. Defiantly stay there again, was excellent

Pleasantly surprised

We didn't expect much from this hotel because it was located 15 min. outside of the town. But, man, it was one of the best dinners and English breakfasts we had on the 10 days trip. Standard room.is kind of small but king bed room is really nice. If you want a quiet time away from crowd in Lake District, this is the place to stay at.

Really good

The Hare & Hounds was a lovely place to stay, set in such a tranquil spot. The food & drink was really good. There was also a couple of good walks, of varying length which started and ended at the Hare & Hounds, taking in the surrounding countryside.

Nice rooms, but dining and service a huge let down

We opted for a superior room and were very pleased with it. Room 5 is a lovely room, very nicely appointed with a huge bathroom. They provide tea and coffee facilities, but oddly enough don’t provide any teaspoons-difficult if you take sugar. You don’t expect to pay £145 a night B & B to have to stir your tea with your toothbrush! Unfortunately, the food in the bar, and the staff very much let the side down. The Sunday roast beef is apparently only available prepared ‘well done’, so we had pork which was fine, save for the red cabbage which had a distinct burnt flavour. Our dessert, arrived after about 30 mins and two promptings, the first revealing the waitress had forgotten to place the order and the second by the chef himself, who by then was seated at the bar ready to leave, (about 8.10pm on a Sunday) indicating he’d prepared it ‘ages ago’. Other guests had the same problem. At no time did the staff apologise for their error or delay. On finishing our meals, we requested our bill, but the staff couldn’t even remember what we’d had. The lady serving breakfast the next day was very nice and tried hard to please. But, my husband’s order of poached eggs on toast, came out as just eggs, with the toast arriving a few minutes later. A fellow guest on a neighbouring table had the same problem and I felt so sorry watching her eggs going cold, that I gave her some of our toast. Given the various accolades displayed at this property, dinner and service was a huge let down

One night stay.

Lovely country Inn, full of character and set in a beautiful location with the fields filled with lambs and yellow daffodils. Nice to be upgraded to a room with a massive bathroom.

Well worth a visit

Lovely place, friendly and welcoming. We had issues with lack of hot water which was handled well by the management. The food at night was first class and breakfast was huge and well cooked. The room was just lovely, there are some good walks in the area.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff

Very glad we stayed here. The food was delicious and very generous. The staff were all lovely and the room we stayed in was beautiful. The only thing I would say is that breakfast could be available earlier as it makes a slow start to the day.

Lovely country pub

Ideally based for local touring, with superb walks within close vicinity. Also convenient for Cartmel Races.

Nice remote country pub accommodation

Staff were lovely. Bathroom very clean, modern and spacious (in deluxe room). Deluxe room was a free upgrade because it was vacant which was a nice gesture from the staff. Restaurant/pub served great lunch and evening meals (great quality and presentation) but breakfast could be improved on. Pub atmosphere was great with a pub quiz on a Thursday evening which was good fun.

Overnight Stay

This B & B is a little gem surrounded by beautiful countryside, making it relaxing and completely chilled. It serves high quality food and the breakfast selection is second to none for a B & B. They have obviously spent a lot of money on bathroom fixtures etc. The bedding has high quality linens but my only issue was the mattress - it was like sleeping on a rock. Change out your mattresses please and your guests won't want to leave - this is the only reason this place didn't get a 5/5.

Lovely old country pub , comfort with great food.

lovely old pub with excellent food. Bedrooms a real surprise : large, comfortable, luxurious, excellent bathroom with walk-in shower. Staff friendly. Good parking, felt very safe. Location a little remote but beautiful countryside. I would stay again.

Lovely cosy country pub

Stayed for one Saturday night, to celebrate a special anniversary. Room was lovely, bath was very nice- some lovely Bath House toiletries to use. Pub was very busy with stove burning nicely. Food was excellent, couldn't fault it.
