Promising both peace and convenience, this lovely Duplex for 4 offers a relaxing base for those in search of Lake Como history and romance!

Situated in a restored townhouse overlooking the Old Town, the spacious Duplex does not require a car. The home benefits from a lake view living room with private balcony access and a contemporary fully-equipped Kitchen Diner for 4. Two spacious Bedrooms (each with Twin Joinable beds) offers welcome flexibility when you need it most, whilst for larger groups staying the other Al Prato Apartments in the same residence can also be rented (subject to availability).

The gorgeous 2-storey Duplex is also equipped with a contemporary shower room, private laundry facilities and a romantic private lake view balcony with bistro dining set. Please note that the duplex features an open tread staircase and is unsuitable for the elderly (due to 30 external steps and 36 internal steps).

Ideally-suited for those looking to arrive by public transport, the townhouse residence places you within enviable reach of Varenna’s amenities and attractions. With a plethora of charming cafes, wine bars and restaurants to savour, those looking for a varied self-catering stay will be well looked after. The picturesque resort town is also home to lots of local gift shops, a lake lido and the attractions of Villa Monastero and Castello di Vezio. Varenna also boasts a Lecco-Milan train service and frequent ferry links to Bellagio, Menaggio and Cadenabbia.

We loved our stay in Varenna! The host gave excellent directions on how to access the apartment. We brought a car and were able to park in the nearby public parking lot. Walking to the place involved a short steep downhill on cobblestones and several flights of stairs to the apartment, so that is good to know if you have physical limitations. But, we loved it and would go back!

The location is great. Right in the heart of town. The unit itself needs a little TLC. The lights in the very steep stairway and landing were burnt out. We had to use flashlights to navigate the steps. This is a safety hazard. We asked them to fix it on the first day. They said they would get to it "tomorrow". That was the answer everyday for our entire stay. It still wasn't fixed by the time we checked out. Various electrical outlets did not work particularly in the bathroom. The provided espresso machine did not have pods for use, which is fine. We could buy our own, but the style of pods are not available anywhere in town... so it was just a paperweight in the kitchen. The internet went our every day. Unusable for 80% of the stay. Wooden patio door was rotting and allowed heavy rain to enter the kitchen. Kitchen needs some very basic supplies, paper towels, dish soap, etc. This place has great potential but is run by a management company that just doesn't care. If I were the owner, I would replace them....

Ideal location in Varenna. Detailed instructions to the property with pictures was provided and very useful. Like many rental units, it is minimal supplied with kitchen, bath and paper products. Just be prepared to supply your own. We enjoyed our stay very much.

The good, the bad, and the ugly:The good: location is fantastic, steps away from both the main piazza and waterfront restaurants/ shops.Good views of the lake and landscape from the windows, and plenty spacious for family of 4.Check in directions plentiful and clear.The bad: When it is hot, this unit is difficult because the bedrooms are basically in an attic. Keeping the windows open all night resulted in mosquitoes and beetles coming in all night. The ugly: 1. No keys in the lock box. Call to the rental office and they queried whether another from my party had already received the keys. We ultimately find out that another family had checked in as their paperwork erroneously had put our rental as theirs. (They were ultlimately placed in apt B). Because they had already used showers/towels, cleaners had to come back out. so that whole hassle was almost 2 hours after having traveled all day to get there.2. Inside, we found remnants of a broken shower door in the kitchen cabinet with numerous tiny pieces of the broken glass. the portion of the broken shower door had been replaced by a shower curtain. We swept out the glass from the kitchen but had to contact the rental co again.3. The knob to the dead bolt on the front door was nonfunctional, so you could not lock the door while in the apartment, onlyl from the outside. That did get fixedThe potential is sky high, but the issues detailed above ulitmately detracted from our experience

This was instantly 5 stars. We loved the unit and the location is fantastic. Downstairs is a spacious living room with 2 sofas, a kitchen, dining area with table and a balcony. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a washer.The problems came because of management. We rented the apartment for 12 days. Within the first day, we notified management of 3 issues; 1)The bathroom light was out (the 1st night, we took our phones in for light- after that we took in a small table lamp) 2) the top shelf of the dishwasher was off the rail-- couldn't even close it, so dishwasher was unavailable 3) the stair light was also out.Not only were these not repaired while we were there, but management never even responded. So, over time, the rating went from 5 stars to 4 to 3.

Great location

The location was excellent and while it was not a lake front view, we could see the lake by looking out certain windows. The villa was clean and comfortable but as others mentioned the amenities were severely lacking. There was no dish soap and only a dirty cloth to wipe counters which I threw away. We bought more tp as there was not enough for the days we were there. I would suggest installing a few hooks for towels and a shelf to place things on in the bathroom. We felt secure staying there. One thing we did not know until we checked out is that the gate can be opened from inside the complex. That would have made it easier for our two couples staying there. Directions and photos sent to locate the villa and gain access were very helpful.

Folgende Mängel:1. Diverse nicht funktionierende Lichtschalter (Leuchtmittel fehlt)2. Einige defekte oder beschädigte Vorhänge.3. Oberer Korb der Spülmaschine defekt.4. Tür zum Balkon defekt (Wasser läuft bei Starkregen in die Wohnung)5. Falsche Steckdose für Toaster, Wasserkocher und Mikrowelle. Es fehlt der Schutzleiter. Gefahr für Leben bei Defekt am Gerät.6. Spülung an Toilette läuft häufig durch und stoppt nicht automatisch.7. Sehr wenige kleine Löffel und Messer und normale Frühstücksteller.Zudem ist es in Varenna extrem schwierig einen Parkplatz zu finden. Fast alle Plätze sind gebührenpflichtig und kosten pro Tag 17. Die Plätze sind schon ab dem Vormittag belegt. Der Ort wird bei gutem Wetter praktisch von Menschen überrannt..

Cute place off a lovely piazza but...

Place itself was great and as described (except for the bathroom) but not easy to find with directions given (stay left/on higher road, do not go down to the waterfront or you will be wheeling luggage over cobblestones and lugging up killer stone steps!!!) we wandered for an hour unable to get in touch with the office & GPS fail until a kind local helped us. It is off a very cute piazza with an old church and restaurants. Inside the shower door is flimsy and leaks, as did the sink at its base-we notified office, also asked for extra towels since we used ours to mop up but got no response. Towel rack was broken and no hooks to hang towels. Water pressure was great though. Blow dryer was broken and only worked in one outlet in the kitchen. Beds are soft. Could use better communication with the property manager--however we contacted we were told to contact the local team and no one ever responded.

In my opinion, the best views of Varenna

Hidden gem in Varenna. This 2bdrm apartment is amazing and has incredible views. There is one spot where you can look out of opposite windows and see the lake from both ❤️. Wonderfully comfortable setup with the balcony, kitchen and living room downstairs, and 2 bedrooms upstairs. There is a lockbox and security gate, for entry, and a 3 floor climb. Located just 100 ft from the town center, everything in town is within walking distance. Wonderful location, wonderful apartment and beautiful views. Whether there for family or vacation, this is an ideal alternative to a hotel, if you would like the added privacy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return for another.

Great property, perfect location!!

Great property with all the amenities & perfect location! Very clean & comfortable! Great welcoming package! To be forewarned, there is no full length mirrors, only one mirror above the bathroom sink. Other than that, it’s a perfect place to stay when you visit Varenna!

Stunning balcony view that you have to work for

Very nice apartment if you are comfortable with 3rd floor stairs and another story in the unit. Location is incredible. Nice welcome basket with wine, comfortable bedding. Could have paid more attention to detail like providing the wifi password, dish towels and hot pads etc.

Great Location!

This property is in a fantastic location in Varenna. My only suggestions would be in improve communications. Providing information about Wifi and password as well as how to operate the electronic gate and front door would have been very useful. Also 24 h phone contact number does not get answered.

Hot hot too hot

Property was bare bones. Nice stairwell ,floors, quality built building. There was No soap for dishwasher no paper towels and bare minimum kitchen supplies. There was a heat wave in lake Como and the two upstairs bedrooms were uninhabitable due to the temperature. The host provided fans but they were insufficient. I do not recommend this place if the temperature in Como is over 27° during the day. Spring fall winter would stay here again.

Locatie is top; groot apartement op perfecte locatie

Fijn apartement met 2 slaapkamers met 2 eenpersoons bedden. Helaas zijn de slaapkamers op zolder en was het warm; er is geen airconditioning en dat mis je echt als het 36 gr C is. Ook is het inchecken erg onpersoonlijk; de beschrijving foto’s zijn duidelijk, maar t komt erg onpersoonlijk over. Ook kan je niet met auto voor de deur komen en is er geen lift; dus beter niet een zware koffer meenemen. Het huis ligt wel perfect centraal met een leuk restaurant eronder (prato). Het balkon viel een beetje tegen, want daar kan je eigenlijk niet opzitten met meer dan een.
