"A great value stay. Friendly staff. A nice traditional feel and an impressive hotel building. Nice pool, steam room and sauna. Clean room, furniture a little dated, but I liked that, gave it a vintage feel."

"Very friendly staff who made us most welcome. The meals were excellent. particularly breakfast. The bar was kept open, at our request, on Sunday evening so we could meet the family of the deceased before the funeral. A very important and emotional gathering of old friends."

"Lovely and good value family run pub and guesthouse. Clean and homely room with everything you need. Lots of food options for dinner and a well stocked bar. The pub was busy but closed and early enough not to disturb me sleeping. Staff friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was great and a reasonable £10 for a full English. I'd happily stay here again. "

"On entering the hotel from the limited car park through the scaffolding and into the rear of the hotel we thought it was going to be a let down but the room was large clean and very relaxing although dated. Breakfast was very nice well cooked and of a good quality. The reception staff were very nice and welcoming so we left feeling happy and relaxed 😊 "

"Second stay at this lovely independent hotel. Even better than the first stay as no issue with a squeaky bed this time and everything else was as good as before. Great location near The Hoe and a short walk down to the city centre. Brought my car this time and parking was no problem. All staff, both on reception and at breakfast were happy and smiling, which costs nothing but makes a big difference. Look forward to returning. "

"Absolutely beautiful property! We stayed for one night and enjoyed a lovely meal at the onsite restaurant, the extremely comfortable room and bed, and the generous breakfast cooked to order the following morning. I highly recommend this property."

"We had a most enjoyable first stay at South Sands having had to change our plans at short notice due to an injury which meant that my husband was unable to fly. As we arrived to check-in Jonathan the food and beverages manager gave us the warmest of welcomes, he presides over an excellent team. The menu was extensive and varied using the delicious fresh local fish and seafood to its full advantage, the lobster bisque amongst other dishes is to be highly recommended.
