"The welcome at Reception was excellent and was a great start to our stay. The staff in the bar/restaurant area were outstanding and we enjoyed our evening so much we planned on going back for lunch the following day. Unfortunately this was when our whole experience changed, we asked for a late check out at 12 but were told it would cost us £10. This seemed petty as we were told late check out was fine. I am also a member of the hotel’s loyalty club and one perk was not having to pay for this....

"The rooms are now really tired and neglected and not worth the £170 price per night, compared to other local hotels ive stayed in. The downstairs communal areas are good, despite the greedy £10 per wineglass, as are the staff. Its the bedrooms- woodchip walls, broken botched multiple wood/paint surfaces, mouldy bathroom and bare carpets-that need a complete renovation. Upstairs communal carpet is like something from The Shining movie. Not recommended."

"The room was super small, but the bathroom was decent size with a great shower. We had to store our luggage downstairs at the desk as only our carry ons could fit comfortably on the room. The breakfast that came with the room was the best we have ever encountered. We could order off the menu which had a good selection w/ great coffee and fabulous service!"

"Beautiful historic mansion. We walked thru nearby parks to the riverfront for lunch. The outdoor restaurant at Orange Grove was very pleasant for an evening dinner and happy hour. The admiral lounge is very comfortable while waiting for pickup to go to the airport or cruise ships."

"Ideal location for visiting Southampton, there are some nice pubs only a short drive away. The breakfast was good lots to choose from. I stayed in the quadruple room on the top floor. It was big, spacious but a bit hot so we had four fans running. Very good overall"

"The location is unbeatable for the historic dockyard (30 mtr) and gunwharf quay and rail station. Good breakfast nicely cooked and tasty. The rooms are to a modern decor with fans for the heat, as there is no air con. We had room 25 which is small, but adequate. The bathroom is the smallest I have ever had with a basin that is tiny. Good shower cubicle that takes most of the space. We would stay there again but not in 25."

"You get what you pay for... or so I thought, until I was talking to fellow travellers. They were raging about the cost of this budget hotel. I thought it was reasonably priced. It is basic, no frills, no vending machine, nowhere to put your clothes except a peg on the wall or a bench. That said, the bed was comfortable and there was a fan in the room. This was really useful given the air con didn't appear to be controllable. I reduced the setting to cool down from 30 degree weather outside and...

"Our stay was short but very good except for when we went for dinner and breakfast, the air conditioning was on full force which made it very cold to sit and enjoy your meal. We did mention to the staff and so did many other people so hopefully they got someone in to correct the problem"

"The bed was comfortable. Upon leaving there were no luggage carts available. There was a convention going on and my husband had to bring our luggage down one piece at a time. I am disabled and couldn’t help him."
