"I was greeted by a very friendly and helpful host who showed me to my room and told me about the events of the coming weekend. The pub website says that it can be noisy because they have late night events but up on the second (or was it third floor) it was actually fairly quiet even with the Pride after party going on after midnight. The pub has a small car park that was never full in the week I was there. The location is perfect, right in the centre of Ulverston and within easy walking...

After turning down a wrong lane past the pub in the pitch dark (9pm on an October evening) ascending up at a dead end I rang the owner who instructed me to carry on past the pub for another 2 miles! I eventually arrived at a building signposted as the ‘equestrian centre’ so I drove a bit further and ended up driving around some lane in a woods (surrounded by curious deer and badgers!).
