We were originally offered room 403 which is one of the 'attic' rooms, as you walked through the corridor and approached the room, you could smell a smell of old cigarette smoke. When you got into the room (which also had a smell about it), the sloped ceiling made the room feel rather small and dark, there was a tiny window which did have a sea view but the main thing, which the hotel could not have done anything about was the noise as the wind whipped around the roof! The room just felt really dark and with a fair sized stain on the carpet, led me to ask at Reception if any other rooms were available. Tony on Reception was so lovely about it and offered us room 419 which again was on the top floor but at the back of the hotel - this was much brighter, had no smell at all and other than a window that rattled (fixed by me folding up a leaflet I'd picked up in the gorgeous lobby way and popping it in the gap in the window frame!) was far better than 403. Housekeeping was fab, the pool and facilities were great and the breakfast each morning was superb. We had booked this very last minute over a half term break, our holiday was cancelled due to storm Dennis, so the hotel was quite busy but staff coped well with the number of people here. It's a lovely old building with some lovely features - yes some of it could do with some improvements but it is such a lovely building it's nice that it is inkeeping with it's age. The staff were a credit to it.
