Stifling and damaged
We checked in for a week stay around 3pm. We saw obvious water damage (bubbled and peeling paint in multiple locations) and there was an overwhelming smell of some kind of cleaning agent. My friend has severe asthma and started reacting immediately. I walked to the shops to buy a fan as the apartment has no air conditioning or fan, and the smell was overwhelming. I spent 40 euro on a fan and we had to leave the door wide open to try and get some air flow. Someone started smoking outside the door so my friend had to close it, and by the time I came back the chemical smell had built up significantly and my friend's throat was raw and her voice was hoarse. We decided we could not stay and booked a hotel. I immediately contacted the owner and explained the situation and asked them to charge us for the night and re-rent the room. When they finally responded they said there is no mold and they are planning to repaint soon and they hope we will enjoy the apartment anyway. I explained it was not possible and we had returned the keys. I asked about a refund and they said they would try to rent it on a different site but it was probably too late (during Paris fashion week with huge demands?) They stopped responding when I asked if they had any luck. So we paid both for a hotel and this apartment. I acknowledge that my friend's asthma is not the owner's problem but the unit obviously had issues and it's frustrating that we paid for a week when we could only be there for an hour.
