"The bathroom was dirty, clearly had not been cleaned properly in some time, there was hair all over the floor, dirt build up around the shower tray and shower itself. Windows were also very dirty. The breakfast bag is not worth it as it’s not ready to go you have to wait 10mins for the hot part!"

"The room was very clean, and the beds were very comfortable, although the room was small, and if you ended up stuck inside, you’d quickly become claustrophobic. Likewise, the picture used to advertise the hotel is not a picture of any public or restaurant space in the hotel building, but a picture of the pub/restaurant 150 feet away. "I stayed here for work purposes being a short 20 minute commute to Grt Baddow. My work colleague and I were made very welcome. The place was spotlessly clean. Had a lovely bar downstairs for drinks and pub snacks and did a fantastic breakfast in the morning.. I would recommend the full English although there were alternatives, all in all I had a very good stay. I would definitely return to the Oakland if I was working in the area.."

"The Ilfracombe is a little olde worlde but very comfortable and quiet. The beds are comfortable, the rooms clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast served in their quaint breakfast room is absolutely superb and set us up well for a long day's walking in the sea air! "

"We stayed here while at the State Fayre festival and will definitely stay here again if there is another festival next year. Friendly staff, lovely gardens and comfortable rooms (although air conditioning would’ve been nice during the heatwave!) Only suggestion would be: upgrade the toiletries in the rooms please. Two tiny watery bottles is not enough!"

"Beautiful guest house …very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful rooms, lovely and clean, with mini bar …and they little details in the rooms like Disaronno liquor ….a little Italian restaurant situated downstairs. Maldon is a beautiful village, with little shops and restaurants just around the corner, I would also highly recommend Mrs Salisburys for food & service too which is just around the corner on the high street. Parking is also available. "

"Lovely, interesting old building in a very good location. Given the age of the hotel there are the inevitable uneven floors and slightly steep stairs. The free parking at the rear of the hotel is a real bonus. Our room was comfortable, well equipped and pleasantly decorated. The breakfasts were consistently good but sadly the hotel does not provide evening meals. All the staff were cheerful and very helpful. We would definitely stay here again."
