"The room, bathroom, AND the shower are probably the biggest of all the hotels where we’ve stayed in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. Did not feel cramped whatsoever. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Just a short walk to the Arashiyama bamboo forest. The location is perfect if you plan to visit the surrounding areas there"

"The place was amazing, if you're looking for a typical japanese experience this is the place . The property is nice and well maintained. The rooms are not new but it add to the classical japanese experience. Overall i recommend if you are looking to live the authentical japanese experience. The staff was so polite and professional too."

"The host was amazing. He contacted us to see what time to expect us. Whenever we walked up he was at the door to welcome us and show us around. We loved everything about our stay. Now understand that this is a traditional Japanese home. My family enjoyed the experience. We were a nice 15 minute walk to the bamboo Forest, a short walk to several dining options, cafe for coffee and a Lawson for convenience. "I have never stayed in a hostel before, so I was filled with trepidation about what the atmosphere would be like. I need not have worried, Mulan Hostel was perfect, spotlessly clean, modern throughout. A quiet and peaceful sanctuary. Mulan Hostel has set the bar very high, fantastic!! Thank you."

"There are so many cute little touches to this hotel! In our room, there is a beautiful rice crackers package and a handmade folded crane for good luck! When at the front desk there was yummy mochi for guests to try! Oishii! So good! There is a dining area on the left you can sit and drink ice water and hot tea if you are staying at the hotel. The staff is so friendly! They carried our luggage to our room before we checked in at 2pm! We did drop our luggage at 11am and went adventuring! There is...

"Wonderful place to stay, we loved that the area was in a real neighborhood and not touristy. The only complaint is the main bedroom faces a an alley that has a motion activated light that shines bright on and off all night while you are trying to sleep. Dark shade would help this situation. "

"The room was within walking distance from the bamboo forest and local restaurants. It was hard to find dining at night because some restaurants close early and you have to cross bridge to search for other restaurants. Too many gnats flying around. Gnats were also in the rooms. The staff were really nice and very helpful and patient."

"It was an amazing experience! The service and staff were one of the best , everything was so organized! We stayed two nights it was enough to experience traditional Japanese cuisine, tatami rooms and open air onsen with beautiful scenery!"

"La casa era splendida, in pieno stile giapponese, i letti molto comodi (erano i classici futon giapponesi per terra). La host mitica, ci ha sempre accolto con molto calore, preparato il thè matcha, dato consiglio dove mangiare e venduto dei kimono meravigliosi con prezzi di riguardo. La consiglieró a chiunque si trovi a Kyoto e spero di tornarci un giorno. Ah dimenticavo, al checkout ci hanno anche accompagnati con la macchina in stazione!"
