1. Room Issue – Severe Water Leakage Our room had a serious water leakage problem. Every time we took a shower, water leaked out of the bathroom into the room. We had to use a minimum of 4–5 towels after every shower to soak up the water. This occurred daily and made the room messy and uncomfortable. Constantly managing water on the floor did not feel like a relaxing vacation experience. 2. Food Safety & Mislabeling Issues I am a strict vegetarian and do not consume eggs. At the main buffet restaurant, several dishes were incorrectly labeled as “vegan,” which caused serious concern. • A dish labeled “Vegan Mexican Rice” contained chicken, which I discovered only after eating a few bites. • When I informed the staff, they acknowledged it but did not take the issue seriously. • The following day, a “Vegan Lentil Soup” was displayed that actually contained meat (beef/pork). Due to the previous incident, I asked multiple staff members before eating and was told it was not vegetarian. Incorrect labeling of food is a serious issue for guests with dietary, religious, or health restrictions, and the lack of concern from staff was disappointing. 3. À La Carte Restaurant & Service Issues At one of the Italian restaurants we had booked for dinner, we waited almost two hours to receive our food, which is unacceptable. At another restaurant Dua Wok the service was extremely poor. The server behaved rudely and placed the food on our table without courtesy before walking away.

This was my first stay at Grand Sunset Princess and I loved it. Lovely, green area. Beautiful, spacious room with modern bathroom facilities. Fine bed. Room cleaned every day. Lots of swimming pools in addition to beach; I mostly used the pools. Very responsive staff, which I appreciated. I recommend this hotel to others and am likely to return myself.

Renovated rooms were great, food was amazing. On going renovations didn’t really affect us or were noticeable. Beach unfortunately was not in great shape when we were here. It’s eroding and lots of seaweed.

Clean, spacious room! I liked the different food options and they gave me an offer for the spa and I enjoyed my massage very much! There were also people taking free professional pictures, transportation around the grounds and poolside entertainment. Beach was well maintained with water activities (some free and some paid) I suggest downloading the app for your convenience.

Our stay at the hotel in Mexico was just okay overall. While the property itself has potential, about half of the resort was under construction during our visit, which significantly affected the atmosphere. There was noticeable noise during the day, limited access to certain areas, and it didn’t feel like the relaxing getaway we were expecting. The beach was also a major disappointment. There were far too many rocks, making it difficult and unsafe to enter the water. We personally saw multiple guests get injured, which took away from what should have been one of the highlights of the resort. I want to note that I am always generous and tip well when traveling, especially in resorts like this. Unfortunately, despite that, the staff often didn’t seem happy or appreciative, and some interactions felt indifferent or unwelcoming. The experience wasn’t terrible, but it also didn’t live up to expectations given the price and reputation. With the construction completed, safer beach conditions, and better staff engagement, this resort could be much better.

did a lot of research when trying to find a place to stay in Mexico and these reviews helped! So I’ll share my honest opinion.. First of all we chose Playa Del Carmen over Cancun because we wanted a little more wildlife and we are not into the party scene. The resort was really good. It isn’t bougie or luxurious, but well maintained, safe and clean. We did think it was mostly beautiful. The restaurants were great, steakhouse was best. Staff was super nice. We had everything we needed… the beach is OK. It isn’t the most beautiful beach. It’s not very expansive and you can’t really go out into the water and explore much. However you can walk up the coastline and find some nice spots to look for shells, etc. The beaches are definitely better up in Cancun… we upgraded to a room that had a swim out balcony, which was really lovely. I don’t think we would have swam quite as much if the pool wasn’t right outside of our room so that was really fun. However, the pool is ice cold! I’m not sure how they accomplish getting the water so cold but it’s a good 10 to 20° colder than the ocean even LOL .., we did have a coatimundi animal break into our room and trash it one day so keep your doors locked when not there! But the animals are awesome, we saw wild monkeys, deer and iguanas all over.. the resort is not crowded. It was really peaceful. Good restaurants. I’d stay here again. Having all inclusive was so convenient. Bring money to tip everyone though… we did Xcaret and it was just ok.

No hot tub for every guest to use. Small things like no mag mirror in bathroom and the app was difficult to use and make reservations. I had no way of knowing when activities were happening on the property. The property is very clean and the staff was nice. The family side was close so there were a lot of kids running around. My experience on the adult side may have been different if it was only adults. I would recommend for families

Our stay at Grand Riviera Princess was a disaster. We travel to Mexico often, and this was by far the worst resort experience we’ve had. At check-in, our luggage was taken by a separate cart, but we were given incorrect directions on where to go. We were told to wait for a shuttle but were never shown the correct pickup location. We wandered the massive property in the wrong direction for over an hour until I had to return to the front desk and force an employee to walk us to the right spot. No one explained any amenities — no shows, schedules, or directions. The buffet was terrible, with very limited and poor-quality options. The property is dated and poorly maintained. Pools had heavy rust stains and were not heated. The beachfront was unsafe and unusable — erosion, fallen palm trees in the water, exposed roots, rocks, and garbage. No one was swimming. Inside the room/buildings: broken lighting (no parts to fix it), a toilet not anchored to the floor, and bat droppings on interior walls. After completing the survey, we were called to the concierge office. The employee was dismissive, only writing notes and repeatedly saying he was “not allowed to compensate” us — even though I never asked for compensation. I was explaining guests should be warned in advance about major issues. He promised management would follow up. No one ever did. Poor management, poor maintenance, zero customer care. We will never return!

The room and hotel were beautiful and well maintained. Most of the staff did not speak to you unless you addressed them first. Bartenders were very friendly. There needs to be more entertainment throughout the day and at night. There was no night life. Had to leave the hotel in order to have a good time at night. The food was ok, nothing grand.

My experience with Expedia and Grand Sunset Princess was extremely disappointing and stressful. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was told that my booking showed an infant instead of a child. This was shocking because there is no clear or obvious option in the Expedia app that shows this distinction, and I have booked many trips through different platforms without ever making such a mistake. Instead of trying to resolve this reasonably, the hotel staff refused to acknowledge that this could be a system or app issue. They demanded that I pay an extra fee based on the same-day hotel rate, which was significantly higher than the rate I originally booked. This felt unfair and exploitative. I contacted Expedia expecting support, but they were equally unhelpful. The agent gave me only two options: Pay the inflated difference demanded by the hotel, or Cancel the booking and receive a refund only according to hotel policy, which meant not a full refund. This completely defeats the purpose of booking through an agent or travel platform—to help resolve issues when something goes wrong. Neither Expedia nor Grand Sunset Princess showed any willingness to take responsibility or offer a fair solution for what was clearly a minor and unintentional booking issue. The lack of customer support, flexibility, and basic understanding ruined the start of my vacation I strongly advise travelers to avoid using the Expedia app and to think twice before book this hotel

Due to a last minute booking glitch the previous day and despite multiple attempts to call the reservations line and not getting through to the correct service or being disconnected. My daughter was left off my original booking I made directly with the resort. This was on Dec 23rd. I thought we would rectify this and pay the difference when we got to the hotel but front desk staff told me I would have to make an entire new booking (and an additional room) for my daughter who is 16 and that because reservations is located in Spain and closed early for holiday Dec 24th, it was not available to add her to my existing reservation and told me to book through Expedia. The Expedia booking process was good. After having to pay an astronomical amount and booking a second room that we did not use we were given our room. Immediately upon entering the resort we noticed very few guests. The front lobby was much as I remembered it from two years ago, even updated. But once we entered the resort grounds itself, we were disappointed to see that it appeared somewhat run down and neglected. The room we were given was also updated but had an open concept glass bathroom that lacked privacy and disturbed the other person as the lights shone through to the sleeping area when someone used it at night. On our last night we had a very disturbing and scary experience in which we were targeted and followed by three men and made to feel intimidated. I am also reporting this incident directly.

No where for soap or shampoo in shower. Room numbers in hall are incorrect. Half the resort was under construction. No stairs in or out of pools. Food and services were excellent, facilities was challenging. An animal opened the closed screen door and came in our room one night!
