This quaint and historic village is a short three miles south of Hendersonville and just under 30 miles from the bustling activity of Asheville. This quiet mountain town is a must-see with its breathtaking views, countless parks, and hiking trails. Flat Rock was established back in the early 1800s when it was called the “Little Charleston of the Mountains.” Then, visitors flocked to the area to escape the North Carolina heat. Today, tourists come to explore the mountains, float the rivers, hike the trails, shop the eclectic stores, and sample the local fare. You can expect to find southern folk art, locally grown produce, antiques, and good old mountain town hospitality. Find your little piece of heaven and explore Flat Rock for yourself!

Getting Around:
Located 5-7 minutes from downtown Hendersonville. Flat Rock, North Carolina, is the home of the Carl Sandburg Home and National Historic Site. And many other historical landmarks in the area just demonstrate how proud Flat Rock residents are of the local history. Take in a show at the iconic Flat Rock Playhouse or grab breakfast at the Flat Rock Village Bakery. If you feel like getting in touch with nature, you’re only minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, which follows the mountains from Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. And on a clear day, you can see Kings Mountain from Chimney Rock Park.
