  • La Lomita is located in the area where La Familia Valdez has a 300 year history. La Lomita was conceived, designed and built with hospitality and spirituality in mind. It is a place of healing and rest, of relaxing and dreaming, of renewal. It holds mystery in the howling coyotes, the whispering junipers, the shifting arroyos, and the colorful wildlife.     Nestled into the Black Mesa, La Lomita is the hub surrounded by Abiquiu to the northwest, Ojo Caliente and Taos to the north, Chimayo to the east, and Española and Santa Fe to the south, all with local art and food just 10 to 55 minutes away. It is 12 miles from the relaxing mineral springs and spa at Ojo Caliente, and 30 minutes from Los Alamos and Bandalier National Monument.

    The spectacular Santa Fe Opera is 30 minutes away, as is its neighbor, the Santa Fe Flea Market with treasures made by 'artesanos' from Mexico, Guatemala and other native areas (open in Spring and Summer).

    On the way to Taos, via the High Road through Truchas or the route along the Rio Grande through Velarde with the Black Mesa Winery, you will find beautiful scenery and native Hispano-made tin work, retablos, santos, and weaving from traditions begun hundreds of years ago.

    River rafting in the Rio Grande or floating over the river gorge in a hot air balloon, are adventures waiting for all ages, as are the ski trails and golf courses, all in close proximity to La Lomita.

    Stay at home and climb the Black Mesa, part of our 9 acre 'back yard', and if you reach the top (about 45 minutes of spectacular climbing), wander across the top of the Mesa and see the Rio Grande flowing below. Or grab your easel and paints, camera or writing pad, and capture the breath-taking, mountain scenes all around you. Need to relax? Try tai-ch, yoga or gentle walking around our juniper, piñon and desert-flowered landscape, and let the many visiting songbirds lull you into a peaceful siesta.

Host gave us all the info we needed and allowed us to check in a few hours early. House backed up to desert mountains which were beautiful and still was very easily accessable. Everything in the house worked perfect and was as advertised. Rise and I agree that it was one of the best vacation rentals ever.

The host was great! Took great care of us. The cabin was immaculate and very well stocked. Very comfortable and spacious. The views were really spectacular. Mountains, rock formations, birds, cactus, sunsets, sunrises, and a beautiful patio to enjoy it all on!! My teen boys even loved it!The kitchen is well stocked and very spacious. We all loved that it felt secluded but there are a lot of things to do nearby. We hope to visit again.Thanks for making it available to enjoy.

Absolutely marvelous place

Beautiful house and property

Our stay here was fabulous. The property was pristine with lots of places to explore. The location was perfect for us to check our Santa Fe, Ojo Caliente and Bandelier Monument. The house was a blessing to return to and relax each evening. Thanks for making our stay enjoyable.

Home Away From Home

My stay was so enjoyable. I went with my 2 daughters and my daughter in-law for a girls weekend. This was the perfect place to cook, play games laugh and hike. We went to Santa Fe and to Ojo Caliente Spa as well and enjoyed two local hikes. The location was great for us and our agenda. I would very much come back to this house and stay again. We all really enjoyed it.

Beautiful Space

This property was a really comfortable space. The home was really clean and we loved everything about it! Kitchen well stocked for cooking and a nice space to eat together as a family. Wonderful views from the living room, space for our children to play outside, and a good central location on a gated road for easy access to surrounding areas.

This was my second visit to La Lomita. Last summer I stayed with my teen son and this year I came back with my husband for our first solo vacation in TEN years. La Lomita was perfect for its proximity to Santa Fe, Chimayo, and Taos, but what really drew us was the quiet, beauty. We felt like we were in a world to ourselves. We especially loved sitting on the porch, drinking coffee and reading. My favorite Expedia/VRBO stay ever.

Loved this property! Gated community so it felt safe. Even though you knew other houses were around, they were spread far enough apart so it was very quiet, peaceful, and calming! The views from the back porch were absolutely amazing!! The house had all the essentials plus a little more. The beds were comfortable and house was clean. Carl was wonderful to work with; very communicative, and accomodating

Amazing view and property

We are ecstatic that we found this property for our vacation. It was perfect for us. We were visiting white sand dunes, Guadeloupe and Carlsbad national parks, and headed north to visit a few other spots like Ghost Ranch. This house was awesome. It backed up again a large range and was private and secluded. So much room to let my 6 year old explore. The stars are night we’re just Amazing. We will definitely be back again!
