It is an old converted river ship with gorgeous woodwork and features like a pull-chain toilet and 2 shower knobs to adjust hot and cold with good water pressure. "We stay at The Sterling once a year. This may be the last time we do so. The main issue was the shower/tub. The main shower head would only dispense cold water. We had to use the small body shower head to clean. The water would not drain from the tub. We had multiple people staying in our room. After 2 showers, we had half a tub full of dirty water so the rest of our guests were unable to shower. The volume on the remote for the tv also did not work. The only time we saw a person at the front...

"It is a smaller hotel. There are homeless people outside everywhere and you’re in the same parking lot as a gas station. Basically the location is actually good for downtown. It’s very very close like 1 mile our window in our room did not shut and lock so that was a concern of mine, but fortunately nothing happened. "

"A little gem of a stay in the historic poverty ridge district. The penthouse is converted attic space that sleeps four easily. There is coffee tea and water all day and a simple continental breakfast. historic home, but we had plenty of hot water for showers. Short a few bathroom towels for our stated number of guests, sure we could have asked for more but we were just here for one night. The grounds are beautifully maintained. "Excellent location- an easy walk to restaurants and shopping in old town Sacramento - plus we could walk to Amtrak. Staff was excellent- friendly and helpful. It’s a little noisy for sleeping being so close to a highway and train station but I’d definitely stay here again!"
