STRANDMARKEN, Beach House on Island Beach

Island beach is located at Eastern Cove featuring a northerly facing beach. The beach is one of the safest and most pristine beaches on Kangaroo island. The House is nestled privately amongst sand dunes in native bush land, providing shelter from the ocean winds, and only 100 meters from the beautiful beach. A beach where your footsteps are often the first ones in the morning, especially during the low season. Kangaroos, wallabies and an abundance of birds are daily visitors. Our newest edition is the outdoor bathtub amongst the bush on top of the hill. There is nothing more relaxing than enjoying a hot bath amongst the native bush, under the amazing stars at night. A perfect spot for honeymooners.
The property is less than 15 minutes away from the ferry terminal and shopping at Penneshaw. There is a boat ramp near by. It is the perfect location for starting and finishing day tours. Strandmarken is ideal for families with children, or just for a couple. The beach is Perfect for swimming, walking, water sports, photography, feeding pelicans and fishing or simply to relax.

Strandmarken will suit anyone from family get-aways, romantic escapes to honeymooners.

The Beach house

The house is tastefully decorated matching the beach theme. It features open plan living with a fully equipped kitchen including an automatic coffee machine, toaster, microwave, soda stream, electric frypan, pizza and waffle maker and a large fridge and freezer. A modern living area with Italian leather sofa's and extra armchairs provide comfort to make the evenings very enjoyable. The entertainment system includes LCD TV, DVD, CD ,i-pod dock, movie library, free WIFI, as well as books and games library. The house features 3 spacious bedrooms, the captains quarter has a King-size bed, the navigators quarters have a queen-size bed and the ship-hands quarters have 2 very unique single story bunks suitable for adults and children. There is a spacious bathroom with a rain shower and washing machine. There is a beach kit for your convenience which includes sun shelter, esky, boogie boards and crockery to take down to the beach. There is a private outdoor setting with a gas BBQ. A combustion heater will keep you warm and toasty with a supply of firewood. The house is well insulated and fitted with double glazed windows to keep you cool during hot summer days with additional ceiling fans in every room. All linen, including towels, hand towels and tea towels, sheets, pillowcases, quilts and blankets are provided. There is a Folder with Kangaroo Islands attractions supplied.

Delightful, relaxing and luxurious

We felt at home in this beautiful place, it was a a short stroll to the beach and high is perfect for anyone especially little ones. We spent hours playing and with a shed full of beach activities we knew we didn’t have to bring anything over from the mainland. The bath is delightful and after a beach visit it was the perfect place to relax. This is a the perfect place for a family with a big outdoor dining table, books and toys and super cute beds. The washing machine was a bonus. We would absolutely stay again and highly recommend this home to anyone.

Outstanding accommodation

Everything about Strandmarken is enjoyable. I have stayed several times now and have enjoyed it more each time, as I’ve become familiar with the house and the environment. The owners have worked so hard to maintain and improve the property. The addition of the outside bath is lovely. We enjoyed the beach so much this time. I cannot recommend Strandmarken highly enough.

Loved the Kangaroos!

Loved that the kangaroos came every morning and every night. Awesome! Property was great. Pity about the rough road to get in there. The first gravel road on KI we hit was Island Beach Road, and it was one of the worst we found on the Island. We enjoyed our stay.

Strandmarken in January

This property is beautifully made, and maintained in excellent condition. It is a pleasure to use the good quality facilities. We were given access to beach equipment such as chairs, and especially enjoyed the outside chairs, benches, lounges and hammocks. Although there is not a view of the beach from the house, we loved watching the many birds, especially finches, attracted by the garden, and the roosters and hens patrolling the property. The wonderful Island Beach is a short walk beyond the driveway. A small problem was speedily addressed by the owners. We warmly recommend this property.

amazing location, amazing house, amazing holiday

The house is situated so close to the beach but also within the bush and so it feels so cosy and like home. The fire place was amazing for the cold evenings and nights. There is nothing to complain or even critique about this house nor the hospitality. Very clean, easy check in and always very communicative throughout. A++++ my partner and I have already said we’ll be back!

Awesome Getaway

We had a very enjoyable stay. Fantastic property and location. Great for families with young kids. Our boys 22mths and 4yrs loved the kids bedroom and outdoor bath. Idyllic location, spacious, more than generous with pantry items and well stocked generally. The 2 captains beds are a bit small for an older or taller child - I would swap for something bigger as my daughter couldn't fit.

Wonderful little getaway

Stayed here with my husband and two young children. House was very cosy and had everything we needed. Location was close to the beach and a short drive into Penneshaw. It was nice and private surrounded by bush land and we enjoyed watching the wildlife, especially the friendly kangaroos who visited daily. The bath at the top of the hill was very relaxing and on cooler nights the fireplace kept the entire house warm. We would stay again.

Holiday delight

This home is so well built and such a rare treat. Visiting in winter, we were pleasantly surprised at how well insulated the house stayed, evening and night. The amenities of the home made it very relaxing and a nice layout with the childrens room away from the laundry and bathroom.

Loved every moment!

This was our second time on KI and in Island Beach. The property was perfect for our family of 4. Short walk from the beach, great sound system that even played outside, kitchen had everything you'd want even an espresso machine for those morning coffees. Kids loved the water toys and even pulled the trolley from the beach to the house. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing stay on the Island. Can't wait to return!

Perfectly described, homely and welcoming and in the perfect location

We had a wonderful holiday at Strandmarken, the property is clean and very well set up for families, a very short walk to the most amazing open safe swimming beach and within striking distance of all Kangaroo Island’s main attractions (and many others). Owners are generous in allowing their beach stuff to be borrowed, the cart was a god-send for taking beach toys etc back and forth. The European windows are clever, allowing all the breeze to be captured whilst in a private location behind the dunes. Great value for money considering the location and We would love to return!
