The location is excellent. Staff was professional and helpful. The rooms were clean. The price was competitive given the average cost of a comparable room in the same neighborhood (large room with a door between the bedroom and sitting room).
The hotel is definitely dated and could use a proper update of furniture, hardware, etc. There are some modern items like the TVs, new paint, some wall sconces, but generally the rooms and the spaces feel tired. The bar and restaurant is only open a few hours a day (becoming more common at hotels), so be mindful of that. Our room didn't allow us to control the temperature - even though it had a thermostat (a dated one) that could be adjusted. Our options were heat or no heat, we wound up turning off the air and cracking a window (and you can barely crack them - which I understand for safety but they maybe opened a centimeter). Cracking a window in downtown Chicago means a decent amount of noise, so this was our biggest frustration with the room. If you like to customize your climate, I'd call the hotel in advance and make sure you'll have that convenience (maybe we got a weird room).
Having stayed at four similar hotels in the neighborhood, this is a decent value but not the best I've experienced. If you really prioritize having a door between the bedroom and the sitting room/desk, then this is one of your best options in this part of the city.
