Visit Son

My daughter and I flew to Costa Rica for a long weekend to visit my son who is in college in San Jose for the semester. This property was perfect for our little reunion. Plenty of space, beautiful views way up in the hills, and a pool. The owners were very helpful and charming. Liked that the house had a local flavor and not generic like most hotels and many other rentals were. Nice restaurants in town. Was central to our day trips.

Magic Mountain Villa

The property was very beautiful and you could tell a lot of time and love went into the landscaping! If you just want a place to relax and totally enjoy the scenery, this villa is definitely for you! The view was beautiful everyday! We were unsure of the no a/c but being on the mountainside was a/c enough for March! The owners are next door and though it was a little different from other Vrbos we have stayed in, it was nice to have someone looking out for us in a country we had not been to before. I would recommend renting the house and the two extra rooms to have the property entirely to yourselves. I already have friends looking to visit Costa Rica and stay in Atenas in this villa! This was our granddaughters first trip out of the country and they are ready to go back. I would recommend a rental vehicle that has more horsepower than a lawn mower! It is a trek to go up the mountains. I would definitely go back!

Breathtaking Views in Beutiful Atenas

The view is one of the most beautiful you will find in all of Costa Rica. However, the descriptions are very misleading. The host's house is literally footsteps away. The pool is shared and felt as if we had no privacy. We didnt use the pool much for that reason. On multiple days we were awakended by drills and loud noises. The washroom was not available for use. They did the laundry for you, which is nice but we had to leave home with wet clothes in our suitcase because we couldnt dry them. John and Guida are very sweet people, however we were not satisfied. The communication was very poor also. If it wasnt for the view, the rating would have been lower. The location is great also. We felt very safe. Lots of great local restaraunts and markets. I love the city of Atenas and will definatly be back. Unfortunately, not to this property.

Great location for simply relaxing. Thank you hosts for allowing us to check-in after hours. Enjoyed the view even though it will get dark after 5:30 pm. Need to wake up at 5:30 am to enjoy the sunrise.

Peaceful, quiet, awesome view

This house has abundant charm. The location provided a pleasant, peaceful, quiet getaway. Close enough to town for convenience, but far enough away to feel safe and secure. Six year old grandson loved the pool. Great place to stay for rest and relaxation. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfection

Our first trip to Costa Rica did not disappoint. This property we called home for 8 days. Comfort and style this home had both with incredible views that were always changing. Fully landscaped and the pool was incredible. Guida and John are the perfect hosts. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We enjoyed having them close by. Pura Vida

First Time Traveling To Costa Rica

Our stay here was nice and the view is unlike anything else we saw while traveling around Costa Rica. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming and if we needed anything they always responded in a timely manner. There are some things that I think are important to point out about this property but in no way did any of these things ruin our stay. The property is gated but is situated in close proximity to the hosts house, with the pool area being almost like a shared space even though there is a bamboo privacy wall around the hosts portion of the pool you are still occupying the same space. They do have a dog who will come and go as she pleases who is extremely friendly but would bark early in the morning which sometimes felt like it went on for hours. If it’s your first time traveling to Costa Rica and you would like to stay somewhere that the hosts are trustworthy and knowledgeable then I would recommend staying with them. We did a lot of traveling around Costa Rica while we stayed here and it was nice to come back every night and relax in the yard but we did end up having to spend a lot of time in the car being that it’s pretty far from anything we did.

Amazing view

We loved this place! Everything is exactly as advertised. The views were unbelievable. Guida and John were amazing hosts-they treated us like family. Even my teenagers loved them. Anything we needed they were there to help and the house was very well stocked-they even arranged for a chef's dinner the first night we stayed which was so yummy and a first time experience for us and the kids. The farm animals on the hill were a treat and the sparkling city lights at night were amazing. Our kids really enjoyed the pool. We got to visit la paz waterfall gardens which is a must see and went to el Toledo coffee tour which was great. And other than that we just enjoyed ourselves hanging out at the house and spending time together as a family. It was nice being able to feel like we are at home watching Netflix on the big screen, etc. And the temperature was amazing inside and outside.

A mostly enjoyable stay

What I loved about this property was the incredible view, the friendliness and how welcoming the hosts were, we were very appreciative of the basket of fruit and goodies as well as all of the information on the local restaurants, attractions and what to expect in the area in general. What I disliked about this property was I do not feel it should be advertised as privately as it is since the host does live just right next to where you stay, there was quite a bit of noise just from their comings and goings as well as the noise of the maintenance personel. The host also has a very friendly dog who barked quite often during our stay. The pool was unfortunately a little too chilly to be enjoyed however it did rain quite a bit which I'm sure did not help to maintain a comfortable temperature. The house itself was not the cleanest, all the chairs had a lot of crumbs in them and the placemats and counters were a bit dirty as well. The beds are very firm and not too comfortable and there is no AC in the rooms. Overall the hosts friendliness and the view were 5 star, but the house itself I would rate maybe a 2 or 3 star. We enjoyed our stay but will be seeking different accommodations next time we visit.

Simply amazing with beautiful views

The house was quite clean and comfortable. The hosts went out of their way to make everything great for us and had wonderful recommendations on everything from activities to restaurants to the best place to get meat. Our meal prepared by the Chef Olsen del Toro was out of this world. Would definitely recommend! Could not have been happier with our choice to stay there and hope to be able to go back. Oh, and the weather temperature is perfect all the time. It did rain in the afternoons but it is that time of year.

Breathtaking views!!!

Wonderful property and the views: WOW! Conveniently close to town but far enough you don’t get traffic noise! The whole house is lovely and well maintained! The pool was a tiny chilly as there is a good breeze being up so high, however we still enjoyed it! Our hosts were very helpful with recommendations on places to see and eat! So appreciated that! Could’ve stayed another week!!! This area is more ex-pat than it is touristy, which we really enjoyed. We LOVE the people of Costa Rica- and the slow lifestyle is something we could deftget used to!!! Great vacation!!!

Beautiful mountain home

Our stay was nearly perfect. Beautiful views, very nice hosts. The day we left for Costa Rica I received a message that the hosts could not let us in to the home after our late arrival. We had to pay additional money we had not planned to on the day of our travel to stay somewhere else near the airport. Most places I have stayed at through VRBO have entry that does not require a person to let you in, they just have a keypad or lockbox. Be aware that you cannot arrive late because the hosts have to let you in. We were very understanding and they were very apologetic but we were hoping the hosts would refund one day of our stay because we did not actually get to stay the first night.

The most beautiful views & pool

We stayed at this property for one week- my wife and I, two teenage children, and one friend from San Jose (22 y/o). The house is high on a mountain and is locked behind a huge solid metal gate. Once you enter the gate, there are actually four homes on the property… this one, a smaller cottage that sleeps 2 people, A small apartment adjacent to a utility room/laundry room that sleeps 2 people, and the main home of the current owners John and Guida. We only needed the main house but if you wanted to have separate spaces or needed more room, they can certainly accommodate it. It would be a lovely spot for a larger multi-family gathering. The house we stayed in has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, each room had a very comfortable queen size bed and there is a living room that has a smallish couch that we also used for a bed. The house is tidy, very comfortable, and feels a bit old fashioned… like my grandmother’s house. The outdoors and indoors co-mingle so much… the windows (all screened) are always opened because the weather is just so gorgeous most of the time. There are multiple flat screen TVs all with Netflix and Satellite news. We also brought a video game console for fun which was easy to hook up. There were small sugar ants around occasionally (not too bad) but I think that is very common for Costa Rica and impossible to stop completely. The outdoor patio area is a dream. The infinity pool is the most gorgeous focal point of the home and overlooks the most lovely view. Pictures don’t do it justice. There is also an outdoor gas grill for cooking food and comfortable lounge chairs. A few notes: The owners have a very gentle German Shepherd dog that was present occasionally. She looks intimidating but is sweet. If you or someone in your party is uncomfortable with dogs, th is may not be a great place for you. Also, I highly recommend Walter Ramierez’s Taxi & Tour Service. Guida connected him with us to help with transportation and planning day trips and he is great at what he does. Very professional, safe, and has some great day trip options. He has a van that can easily fit 7 passengers + himself + his driver (total of 9). He was always punctual, didn’t throw on surprise prices, and when we were at day trips he came with us to make sure we got to where we needed to be… even sat and watched our stuff as our family swam at the beach, etc. He also picked us up punctually at 4 am to get an early morning flight. Top notch.

Best Costa Rica Stay!

We stayed with Guida and John for a week. It was 4 of us. We really enjoyed the house and the views are spectacular. Both Guida and John and the most wonderful hosts. They live on the property, in the house that is pretty much adjacent to the rental and they are extremely attentive, easy to chat with, and very kind. We could not ask for better hosts. We would absolutely recommend you book your stay with them. You will not regret it.

Amazing Views

John and Guida hosted us on short notice after our previous vrbo reservation was not as advertised. They are the most amazing and accommodating hosts and as a bonus you get to visit with Laika (very friendly German shepherd). Their home is on the same property so if anything is needed they are right there. The views are absolutely breathtaking and you even get the added bonus of cows, they have a path just below the house to go from field to field. The views are visible from most rooms in the house as well, which is furnished perfectly with all the amenities you would need. John and Guida really do treat you like family and we will definitely be visiting again!

A Piece of Paradise

We thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay at this amazingly beautiful, breathtaking piece of paradise. The Villa itself is lovely, spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed to feel right at home. The mountain view is absolutely stunning and there is a lovely covered yet open outside deck to sit, watch and listen to the exquisite nature that surrounds you. The temperature with the elevation makes life very comfortable here, as air conditioning was not needed at all while we were there. The air is so fresh. There are lounge chairs with large, sturdy umbrellas to sit by the pool. The pool itself is gorgeous, well -kept and elegantly lit in the evening. Guida and John are exceptional hosts, kind and helpful in every way! And their suggestions for nearby restaurants were the best! Make sure to try Monsoon! Guida helped to arrange for massage by the pool which was wonderful and highly recommended! We so enjoyed Laika as well, their very sweet German Shephard. There's so much attention to detail that Guida and John provide in their Villa which add to the feeling that you are well cared for while you are here. We will love to return here again one day soon. Thank you for a great vacation!

Beautiful property with stunning views

We fall in love with the mountain where the property is located. The house is secluded and feels very safe. It has stunning views day and night! My husband and I enjoyed so much drinking our cups of coffee in the morning. John and Guida are wonderful hosts and were available to guide us during our stay in regards to tours and places to visit. Costa Rica is a beautiful Country and for sure we will return and even consider the possibility of retiring in this Country. Book your stay you won’t regret it! Welcoming and relaxing

This was our first international trip with our young daughter. Guida and John went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. Sunrise by the pool was unforgettable. We made day trips to the beach, mountains and Poás volcano all from this location. Grocery store was convenient and had all of the standard items we needed. We took advantage of a recommended private chef and would highly recommend the experience to anyone staying at the property. Can’t wait to make an excuse to go back!
