It is close to Devon street where we love to go for food and shopping so GEM will definitely be our stop every time we are in Chicago area. The train station was close by and using the shuttle service was easy and efficient to get to and from the station."

Note at the time I made the reservations there were no notices that the reservations were refundable. Up to this point I've never had an issue with a hotel in which I couldn't cancel the reservation and get the full refund as long as the cancellation was made in advance of the check in date. "A very well priced motel in a very expensive area. Good access to downtown Chicago via the El as the motel is only 10 minute from the station. It's not a fancy motel but it was, for the price, very nice."

"The room temperature has to be controlled from the front office . The room temperature was up and down whole stay. Even though we to call the front office couple times per day, the room temperature was up and down and not comfortable. The environment was cozy and calm."

"It has been many years since I had a room with no mini refrigerator or microwave! Room was clean except for bathroom door that had dirty fingerprint smudges. No extra blankets provided and sheet was so short it barely made it up to my chest. Card slot to open door was so broken that I had to make 3 trips to lobby to get the card to open the door. And the clerk acted annoyed because I was bothering him! How about me-up and down the stairs 3 extra times? Could be a decent place if owner would...

"Avoid. Marginally clean. Tub was gross. I did not feel comfortable taking a shower. Lamps that were supposed to have 2 light bulbs had only 1. No Kleenex supplied in room. Remote control on TV did not work. Had to go to the desk 4 times before someone came to the room and figured it out. Outside stairs are treacherous. The railings are at least 6" too low. You have to be in a bent over position to hold the railing."
