Close to the sea, summer house in the woods…

We enjoyed two weeks at this property. The location is charming, with five minutes walk through the woods and between neighbouring summer houses to a sandy beach which, with shallow water (knee-height to most adults) for the first 50 metres out, would be perfect for holidaying with small children. We were lucky to have warmish weather and could bathe in the (fairly cool!) sea even in late September, although the lateness of this summer could be a climate crisis bonus for all we had any experience of typical conditions here. We travelled a little on Sjaeland (Zeeland). There is much to see in fairly easy reach with a car. In Odde Havn we were blessed with a sighting of a kingfisher. I had never seen one in a harbour before, flitting from boat to boat and out in a long arc over the sea to a nearby beach. But we enjoyed wildlife sightings from our house in the woods too, with deer on most days and a hare that would sometimes lollop through the garden, giving me a wink as it passed the window where I would sit in the early morning. From the beach we saw porpoises passing far out, parties of wild geese flying along the coast, also goosander and eider ducks close by the shoreline. One visit we made that I can thoroughly recommend (unless you dislike heights) is to the 45 metre tall, spiral forest tower to the south at Camp Adventure near Roennede, from whose platform, at least in the kind of weather we had, you can see the surrounding countryside for 25km across Zeeland. Because we were visiting so late in the season many of the restaurants were only open from Thursday to Sunday, but this disadvantage was countered by the close proximity of a supermarket, also within 5 minutes' walk. This is one of the older summer houses along this coastal strip. It has a lot of charm and some of the rooms are very pleasantly furnished. There was no shortage of kitchen utensils either. We would have liked one of the bathrooms better if it had been a little more modern, but this was not really a problem for a two-week stay. The Novosol office (the agency who rents out this property) is at close hand in the small town of Vig, and was quick to respond to any questions we had about the house or in giving us information and recommendations for visits to surrounding places of interest - for example to the brilliant fishshop of Odden Fisk.
