In tranquil countryside, Casa Hortensia

Access to Casa Hortensia is via a driveway with beautiful hortensias on each side, which takes you to the main entrance of the villa. Under the covered veranda is the outdoor ding table and a portable barbecue, perfect for al-fresco dining.
The main door opens to the open plan living area/kitchen. A sitting area with flat-screen TV is complemented by a dining area and a fully equipped open-plan kitchen, along with a double bedroom and a family bathroom.
This opens to the covered front veranda with outdoor seating furniture and a couple of sun-loungers – the perfect place to experience a little of the Madeira countryside and mountains with those amazing views.
On an open mezzanine, accessible via a staircase, there is an open plan bedroom, with en-suite bathroom.

São Vicente is located only 6 Km and 15 minutes’ drive away. This beautifully maintained and picturesque village is one of the most precious natural treasure of Madeira.
Casa Hortensia is surrounded by levadas and walking trails, and with the Unesco Heritage Laurisilva forest on all around, it is the perfect villa in Madeira for walking in Madeira and nature lovers.
The verdant and majestic landscapes of this region are also marked by the impact of volcanic forces and the erosion of its slopes. There is also a small chapel built inside a basalt rock, on the sea front that deserves your visit, this is “Capela do Calhau”.
The volcanic caves between Casa Hortensia and the nearest Village of São Vicente, can be visited and are the remnants of the original creation, hundreds of thousands of years ago, of Madeira Archipelago.
In the sea front you can find a wide variety of restaurants, bars, caffees and the sea front promenade.
Funchal is a mere 40 minutes away (30 Kms) and the airport 48 Km and around 50 minutes.

Cleaning
The property is prepared for your arrival. For stays of longer than 7 nights, a change of linen and towels, and light mid-stay cleaning of bathrooms is provided on a day and time to be advised at check-in.
All linen and towels are provided.
For health reasons, linen for a baby cot is not provided and you should bring your own.
Guests need to vacate the villa during a mid-stay clean and change of linen.

Booking Notes
The rental value varies with the number of people occupying the property, so please ensure you enter the correct dates, number of adults, children and infants. Please note that supplements apply should additional people join you for any length of time.
To secure your reservation we require a non-refundable deposit, or the full amount if you are arriving within 8 weeks. The balance is due 8 weeks prior to arrival.
A security deposit of 300€ is required by credit card prior to check-in.
Final details for check-in and driving instructions to the property will be sent 7 days prior to arrival. A contact number will be provided, and to be able to access the property, you need to phone this number as you are leaving the airport. It is your responsibility to contact and advise the number provided on the check-in details to advise any delays to the expected check-in time.

This property is a self check-in unit and check-in time is 16:00 or after. A code will be provided for access to the property.
Check-in and check-out flexibility will be applied where possible, but this will depend on housekeeping schedules and the departure and arrival days of other reservations either side of your stay; a definitive answer can only be provided within 24 hours of your arrival for check-in and your departure for check-out. It’s always confirmed on a request basis.

Using GPS will take you via old and less easy roads and unusual locations:


Leaving the airport take the motorway (Via Rápida) in the direction of Funchal and after this signs to Ribeira Brava.
When you reach the end of the motorway after a long tunnel (approximately 35 minutes) keep on the left lane and follow the signs to São Vicente and Encumeada.
This will take along the river bed and climb up to the tunnel that links the south to the north of the island.
On exiting this tunnel, keep on the same road and you will descend towards São Vicente
At the first roundabout take the 1st exit and continue on this road.
You will find another roundabout please take the 1st exit through the tunnel.
At the end of the road another roundabout, take 2nd exit to São Vicente.
When exiting the tunnel, keep driving down until you find a T-Junction, turn right here and drive until the Church. 

On the church Igreja do Rosário, turn right up the hill onto Rua Artur Faria and go up the hill for approximately 500m.
Reaching the T Junction turn right on to Caminho da Achada do Loural and drive for about 1.3km until you reach Casa Hortênsia.
