Lost at Sea is a charming and affordable ocean side cottage on Hatteras Island that is great for a romantic getaway, adventurous singles, couples or a small family any time of the year. Lose yourself in vacation bliss with its contemporary nautical blue and white decor that offers two bedrooms each with their own attached private bath, and an open kitchen, dining and living area that is great for social gatherings or relaxing and reading a book.

Lost at Sea has three decks with the rooftop deck offering spectacular views of sunrises over the ocean and sunsets over the sound. The screened in deck is a great place to enjoy the shade and have an outdoor meal or enjoy the rocking chairs while watching the sun set over the sound; and finally the sliding doors in the living room and bedroom lead out to the main deck for outdoor enjoyment. There are beach chairs, umbrellas, sand & water toys, games, movies and more. An outdoor picnic BBQ in the backyard is casual and fun for dinner and the outdoor shower is great to wash off the sand from a day at the beach or sound.

Spring Break Getaway

We booked Lost at Sea very last minute. It was a great value considering the ease to access the beach. The neighborhood was quiet and friendly. We enjoyed the crows nest. Very clean for pet friendly. I will note one of our dogs somehow found a dune prickly pear when walking in the yard at night. We never found the source the next day. Just be aware. Otherwise all was wonderful at Lost at Sea.

This property is not a true VRBO

The house needed a good cleaning and some TLC. We had an electrical fire/smolder and had to abandon the property. The property was disconnected from power completely. The RESORT company that actually manages the property ( not vrbo ) couldn’t find another acceptable property for us to stay in. And we didn’t know that until 5:30 the evening of the incident. So we had to pack, and leave that evening at 5:30- and drive all the way back to the Shenandoah Valley.

Lost at Sea - Our Favorite Place to Stay in Salvo

Lost at Sea is the perfect place to stay for 2-4 people. We have stayed there 5 times. It's our home away from home. We find it very comfortable and homey. It's very spacious and has everything that you need. The linens are super clean and the house is very clean upon arrival. We will be there again next year, I am sure!

The overall cleanliness was great. The size was also good for our needs. Our issue and the reason we are giving it only 3 stars was that the property was not all that kept up. First we were provided 1 towel set per person for the house for the entire week. No spares. The refrigerator on the house level did not have a freezer. But there IS one in the laundry room underneath the house as well as an ice maker, which was pretty cool. There were no spare tissues, paper towels, toilet paper,Laundry soap,dish soap, etc.... What was on the roll was what you got. Also, the stairs coming up to the house and are no longer screwed down in some spots which was unsafe. Splinter galore. The rocker in the front porch was broken and the screen on the front porch blew out in the wind. The doors stuck really bad un the humidity. . The beach equipment was almost all broken. Went to the lockal dollar general for others. Lastly, everything seemed warn and old. We spent so much time outside of the house so it didn't matter too much but when you work hard and spend the money for a vacation.... you expect it to be worth the money. This was not. I would not recommend it honesty and we won't be going back. Someone need to give this place a little TLC.

Great week in a great home

This property was just as advertised - bright, clean, updated and in a great location in Salvo. Long walks through the dunes to get to the local beach, but the house had a lot of beach chairs and a nice beach wagon and cooler available for use. Loved the sunsets and starscapes at night in the bird’s nest up top. Also the ice machine - I never want to go on a beach vacation in a place that doesn’t have one now.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Great porches, comfortable beds and stylish decor. We missed not having a washer/dryer, a regular size refrigerator/freezer and a closet in the primary bedroom.

Spring Break Getaway

We’ve been coming down to the OBX for years. This is our first stay this far down south 12. The house was perfect for our needs and was in a great location. We will absolutely come and stay at this house again.

Lost at Sea us a Gem

We have stayed here 3 times. We love it here. It’s just the right size for the two of us plus our doggie. Very cozy. I’m sure we haven’t seen the last. We almost feel like it’s ours!

Memories with the family

Wonderful gem, great placement in a quiet neighborhood. Great size and cost when you have a small family and don’t need a six bedroom house. I would add another couch so four can sit comfortably and make one a sleeper sofa type. My kids are young enough sharing a room wasn’t a issue but that will change of course. We came for the 4wd beach which is very near by and loved every moment. Would stay again!

Excellent getaway spot in secluded and quiet Salvo

The house was clean and in a great location. For those not familiar with the area, Salvo is secluded and 20+ minutes from some amenities like larger grocery stores like Food Lion. It’s a quiet getaway and in a great location if you want to unplug and unwind. The walk to the beach is a littler farther than I expected but it was doable.

We love "Lost At Sea"!

This is the second time we've stayed at Lost At Sea. Some really nice improvements were done from the first time. Although we loved our stay both times. Very clean, cozy and so very close to the ocean. (The owners could invest in a beach cart. That would have been a really nice thing to have) The only snag we had this time was that the internet shut down after two days of our stay. We called Resort Realty and the issue wasn't acted upon very promptly. I do realize we weren't the only property they were taking care of. Two days later we called the internet provider and found out that the bill was overdue by 200 days. I'm not sure who dropped the ball here but that should have been taken care of a long time ago. The internet provider turned it back on for the rest of the stay seeing as it wasn't our fault that the bill hadn't been taken care of. I did call RR to inform them about the issue. They said they would get in touch with the owners and let them know. Anyway...I would stay here again because we are so comfortable at Lost At Sea. I recommend it for a small group. It has everything you need. We did not want to leave.

We were pleasantly surprised at how homey it felt. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking in. We especially appreciated the ice maker! The property was equipped with far more than we even had time to use. Star gazing from the crows nest was unbelievable! Highly recommend!

Home sweet home

We loved our stay at “lost in the sea” . We stayed here for 3 weeks and it was splendid. The home is sweet and Cosy, very well equipped with all basic stuff including beach gears. The owners very considerate and made sure there was every small thing provided for I.e. ( soaps, hand washes detergents , toilet paper etc stacked) When we reached the dishwasher was not functional but the management company helped fix it within a few days. The management company is very also responsible and helpful. The house has plenty of sunlight which makes it so special and warm! The neighborhood ( Salvo) is also very friendly and the overall community was receptive to vacationers. The owners have tastefully decorated the house, the WiFi speed is great and there is a smart TV that makes it easy for you to enjoy your favorite streaming channels. The house is very closely located to neighbors beach access, which is a blessing as other accesses are few hundred yards away. The neighbors were kind to allow us the access! Loved our stay in this wonderful sweet home- thank u for making our stay so memorable! Loved our stay! My favorite part was the hammock!!! Spent hours lazing around on it! Also loved their deck, it was ideal place for dinner- listening to the waves and enjoying the fresh breeze. PS : The house does not provide for iron - so if anyone needs it please remember to pack your travel iron along . The laundry room has ice maker and large refrigerator for your additional refrigeration needs!!!

Perfect home for a getaway

We booked this home for our family of three and really enjoyed it. The newly renovated kitchen is awesome and was perfect during the rainy days to work on our 1,000 piece puzzle on the huge island. The outdoor shower was really nice and also spacious which was perfect to get all the sand off my son who seems to bring the beach home with him after a day on the beach. The walk to the beach was an easy cut through to the house in front of us as they graciously allowed us to. Otherwise, there’s a boardwalk to access the beach a little down which would have been a longer walk. This home is situated one house back from ocean front but the ocean front homes don’t really have a view due to the dunes so I’m glad we didn’t overpay for ocean front. We went shopping at Avon grocery store which is a bit more inconvenient since it’s not in salvo but it was fine. We loved the home and definitely would book it again!

Awesome house!

We loved our stay at Lost at Sea. The house is nicely decorated and had everything we needed for a great week in OBX. I thought that not having a full sized refrigerator in the kitchen would be an issue (the full sized fridge and freezer is in the laundry room downstairs), but there is plenty of space in the dual fridges that are in the island. The laundry room had an ice maker with a cooler, so we brought ice upstairs daily which was nice! For those that cook at home, we did bring a few knives with us. The oven/stove is more of an efficiency size but was perfectly fine for us. Well stocked kitchen for cooking as well. There is only a Keurig coffee maker, not a coffee pot. The house was PERFECT for our two dogs. Both the front and back decks had gates, so we did not need to worry about bringing our baby gates. The outdoor hose location was great for washing them down after the beach. We've stayed in a lot of places with them and this was by far the best for the pups. Our favorite part of the house was the Crow's Nest! Awesome for watching sunrise and sunset. The beach access is close, but beware the dunes are tall and the sand is hot! Definitely more of a trek than we were expecting. Overall a wonderful trip and we'd definitely stay again!

Incredible Spring Break Vacation!

The house was wonderfully appointed. Newly remodeled, great kitchen, awesome location. The deck was perfect for dogs. I have two labs (siblings), 3 yrs old and a handful!. This place was designed for them. They had access to the main deck and the crow's nest. Hose station and outdoor shower were perfect for cleaning them up as well as all of our beach stuff. As ice snobs, the ice machine downstairs made our vacation! Loved it all! Grab this place before its all booked up, or they up the rent; what a value!
