A church was recorded in the Domesday book of 1087, but the present church dates from the 12th century onwards. The original spire collapsed in the early 17th century and the tower was restored in 1620. The chancel was rebuilt and the church restored in 1885. There is a western tower, nave with north and south aisles with three bay arcades, chancel, and south porch. The tower is of three stages and quite plain on the exterior. The tower arch is Norman with scalloped capitals. There is a 15th century octagonal font decorated with shields and roses. The chancel has a heavily restored sedilia and piscina. The east window is a triple Lancet. Most of the fittings are 19th century. The organ is by Conacher, circa 1908 with attractively decorated pipes. There is a stained-glass window by Morris circa 1873 at the east end of the south aisle and also a millennium stained-glass screen in the tower arch by Glenn Carter. The church is part of the Lafford Deanery which consists of 46 churches.
Threekingham, St Peter's church
Late 12th C onwards and chancel rebuilt in 1863. 3 stage tower, the lower part is built of small rubble-work with an ashlar framework and buttresses. The west door is late 12th century with two orders of shafts, waterleaf capitals and a round moulded arch. The belfry contains four bells which can no longer be rung due to cracking in the tower and the need for extensive renovations and a new bell frame. The 14th broach spire is a fine example which carries three tiers of lucarnes and is ornamented with grotesques, which perch menacingly as if ready to leap down. The top 3 metres of the spire was renewed in 1909 and the weathercock added. The south porch, known as the Angel Porch, has carved stone angels on either side of the entrance and the south door is of the same date as the tower. Just inside the church is the font – the base and stem are Early English but the octagonal bowl is believed to be 16th century, judging by the costumes of the figures, but carved in an archaic crude style with biblical and symbolic figures, the underside of the bowl is also decorated with carved figures. The aisle is 13-14th century and separated from the nave by a Decorated arcade of three bays with seats at the base of the pillars which are now obscured by pews.To the left of the chancel is a blocked up doorway which may previously have led to a rood screen. In the north wall of the Nave is the old north door, known as the Devil’s Door, which is now blocked up and set into the masonry here is the carved effigy of a child. The pulpit is of Ancaster stone and replaces one that stood where the organ now stands. At the foot of the organ and to its left is a marble memorial slab to Charles Medlycot, who was murdered by an absconding servant in 1737 on the eve of his wedding.
