  • This lakeside cozy, 698 square feet of cottage has drive-up access and will put a smile on your face. A gorgeous two level deck will ensure you get panoramic lake view for a beautiful Seneca Lake sunrise and offers shade or sun for your afternoon relaxation. This cottage, originally built as officer barracks on Sampson Air Force Station, then upon base closure sold and relocated to its current location (currently the Sampson State Park is located directly east across the lake).

    After descending 15 steps off the deck you can enjoy 105 feet of frontage choosing between natural-sloped shale beach or 60 linear feet of flat lawn created by a break wall. Enjoy time on the pile-driven, 100 ft trex dock with an enlarged platform for lounging at the end.

    The Stowaway is less than two miles north of Fox Run Vineyards, in the heart of the Seneca Lake wine country. It is located seven miles south of Geneva, within two miles of Smokin' Pete's Barbeque, four miles south of Roy’s Marina, Port’s Restaurant, Vonnie’s Boathouse. It is 28 miles north of Watkins Glen. There are 3 short term rentals within walking distance of this property owned by different owners but may be available for different groups.

    I’ve been the owner of this family property since 2002. This is my primary winter residence and am happy to share the summer with you! I've installed new water resistant flooring (2026) and have a new pull out couch (2025). I can assure you there is nothing better than a quiet morning on the deck over looking the sunrise.

    Please Note***This property is alongside the Finger Lakes railway line. This is an active rail line with trains passing by up to several times a day sounding horns during the day and night - weekends are usually not active. This line runs the length of Seneca Lake on the west side so any property along this side of the lake will be affected. There is a 7 mph speed limit for vehicles driving on Locust Grove. This is not an ideal property for toddlers, please be aware of the large drop from the deck.

    This property is not handicap accessible.

    Well behaved pets allowed with a non-refundable deposit.

We had a wonderful stay! The location was perfect—conveniently situated between Watkins Glen and Geneva, making it easy to explore everything the Finger Lakes has to offer. The house was just the right size for my spouse, our pup, and me. It was comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. We also appreciated that the listing mentioned the nearby train. At first I pictured the scene from My Cousin Vinny, but it honestly wasn’t a bother at all and didn’t take away from our stay in the slightest. The view of the lake from the living room and doc is absolutely spectacular. We’d happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great home base in the area!

The property had a lake view and the inside was dated but clean. As we parked next to the house, the garage on the left (which belongs to someone else) had broken windows with junk inside the garage. Not a big deal but not a good first impression. The bathroom is very small and is directly off the kitchen. Kitchen and living room are adequate. Although there is an AC window unit in the window and if you sit in front of it, it is difficult to hear the tv. There is a train track by the house and I jumped when the train came by only because I didn’t expect it. We didn’t want to open both French doors because one of the screen doors was off and we didn’t want to let any bugs in. The bed was fine for me but my husband slept on the couch the second night. The deposit was steep and we didn’t get it back for 2 to 3 weeks. Location was good since the lake is directly in front of you and wineries are all around. Host was responsive.

Family vacation

We loved staying here. We came for the Half Ironman, and it was a perfect spot. The location was great and being in the water ! We had family visit foe the day as well.
