Award-Winning Beehive in the Rainforest | Hot Tub

A rainforest hideaway, not a town rental. Our award-winning Beehive (Airbnb OMG! Fund winner) sits 45 to 50 minutes from downtown La Fortuna, bordering the Eternal Children's Rainforest. Sleeps 10 with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, reading nooks, an indoor/outdoor hot tub, firepit and WiFi. Waterfalls, a crater lake and great birding are nearby; Arenal Volcano is an easy day trip. The last 9 km is a stone road, so a 4WD and daylight arrival are recommended.

THE SPACE
EVERYONE is welcome at our Beehive! Here is a walkthrough of the space.

Accessibility: The first floor is wheelchair accessible, including one bedroom and two bathrooms. All common areas are accessible too. The second-floor and third-floor bedrooms are reached by stairs.

The property: About 3,000 m² (32,291 sq ft), fully fenced, with a large electric gate.

Parking: Private parking for up to 4 cars, including two indoor spaces, plus room on the street if you need more.

Common areas: As you enter, the dining area is on your left, with the kitchen just beyond it. Straight ahead from the main door is a large living area with the main TV and a large sofa bed. Outside the front of the house, turn right to find the indoor/outdoor hot tub, or turn left to find the firepit.

Laundry room: Attached to the kitchen, just past the refrigerator, you will find a laundry room with a washing machine.

Bedrooms and beds:
First floor (to your right as you enter): one king bed.
Second floor (up the first flight of stairs): one queen bed.
Third floor (master bedroom): one king bed.
The living room sofa bed sleeps four adults, or comfortably 6 to 8 children.

Bathrooms: There are three: one off the living room, one in the first-floor bedroom, and one in the third-floor master bedroom.

Doors: The main door has a key lock. Two sliding doors lead to the front of the property, one in the living room and one in the first-floor bedroom.

Exploring: The rest of the property is yours to explore, with a creek, fruit trees, and water springs, and plenty of flora and fauna. Please be careful when walking around, especially at night. The house is full of large hexagonal windows, so you can birdwatch from your balcony, the first floor, or the reading areas.

GUEST ACCESS
Guests have full access to the entire house and the whole 3,000 m² (32,291 sq ft) fenced property, including the hot tub, firepit, creek, and fruit trees.

THE AREA
The Beehive sits at about 720 m on the Caribbean slope, in premontane rainforest full of birds, frogs and wildlife. It's a quiet rural valley, away from the tourist strip, with rivers, waterfalls and trails all around. Close by:
• Eternal Children's Rainforest, Pocosol Station (the largest private reserve in Central America): 20 min. Trails, a big waterfall, boiling mud pits, and a lake inside an extinct volcano crater where you can swim
• Arenal Organic Farm Tour: 20 to 25 min
• Two Little Monkeys chocolate tour: 30 min
• Mundo de las Abejas bee tour: 38 min
• Maquique canyoning and rafting: 40 min (the rafting runs near the house)
• Downtown La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano: 45 to 50 min

GETTING AROUND
You'll need a car: a 4x4 is best, a 4x2 SUV works, a sedan does not. Stock up before heading up the mountain. Drive times from the Beehive:
• Nearest convenience store: 20 to 30 min
• San Isidro de Peñas Blancas (supermarket, restaurants, tours): 25 to 35 min
• Downtown La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano: 45 to 50 min
• Liberia airport: 3.5 to 4 hours
There's no cell signal at the house, so plan on WiFi calling. Please arrive in daylight.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
Road access: The final 9 km (5.5 miles) before the Beehive, about 20 to 30 minutes, is a bumpy road in less-than-ideal condition. We recommend a 4WD vehicle. The road has a solid stone base, so there is no real risk of getting stuck in mud, but you will cross a small creek on the way. Please plan to arrive in daylight, especially during the rainy season.
