" The hotel needs a complete refurb. The room allocated to us was of poor quality and standard. There was no wardrobe hanging space for ladies dresses and no drawers for storing other clothes. The plug was missing from the bath and the taps were dripping in the bathroom sink. The positive was that the staff were attentive and helpful and the food (breakfast) was excellent. We would not stay here again."

"We stayed for a week over Christmas. The room was clean, comfy and fairly modern. The staff were amazing; helpful and respectful every time we spoke to them. The breakfast was good; selection of cereals, yogurts, fruit and pastries for a light breakfast. Sausage, bacon, scrambled egg and beans if you wanted something hot. Overall, excellent value for money!"

" This hotel is certainly outdated and in need of a refurbishment. That said the room was very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a lunch which was good with a selection for vegetarian and lovely puddings. This is an ideal place for walkers or cyclists who maybe on a limited budget but want privacy and a lovely warm bath at the end of a day on the Pennines. "

"I worked at this hotel from 1977 until 1982, and have fond memories of it. During her first electoral campagne, Margaret Thatcher stayed the night and I was given the job of preparing the breakfast tray for her and husband Dennis. They were in the suite of course. I carried the tray up to the room but someone else took it inside. I remember being surprised by how small she was.
