The property was clean, well maintained, and exactly as advertised in pictures. There were a couple of inconveniences; thermostat locked at 70F and single driveway parking with LSV in garage. Even still, 5 stars up to this point. Unfortunately, the hosting experience was a different story. The condo comes with an extensive list of rules and signs throughout. When makeup stained towels, I felt the charge was questionable, but we accepted responsibility and paid the charge without complaint. What changed my opinion was being charged for two bike locks that simply needed to be reset – a process that takes seconds. We provided this code for the owner to relay to housekeeping. It was brought to our attention that we broke the bike lock rule and were the first guests to do so in nine years. We missed the bike lock section in the “welcome book”, not to be confused with the “welcome packet”. Please read both thoroughly. The charge itself was insignificant. What stood out was the apparent willingness to turn even the most trivial issue into a billable event. After years of staying in terrific VRBO vacation rentals on 30A with no issues, I’ve now learned a good host knows the difference between protecting their property and nickel and diming their guests. If you decide to stay here, document everything, assume every minor issue matters, read every rule carefully, and plan on frequent communication with the owner. If you want easy, stay somewhere else.
