When you are fortunate enough to stay in such an area it is good to stay somewhere that is in sympathy with its surroundings. The Castle and Ball stands proud on the high street and is sympathetic to all the surrounding period properties. Time has missed many beats in Marlborough. The hotel is central to such modern day amenities as Waitrose and even there it is like stepping back...

"There is parking behind the waitrose and staff walked us there after their shift had ended to ensure we understood the parking App since tomorrow is the Farmers Market on High Street and we would have to move the vehicle early. Now it’s all sorted and paid in advance. Of course it’s an older hotel and everything is crooked and settled, but you should come here for that eclectic experience, as we did. I just miss the old mural that was painted in the pub before, replaced by a more modern map. "

The room was clean and comfortable with a brilliant shower that I did not have to faff around with adjusting, just turned on and it was the perfect temperature.
