Above the Gulf House - Spectacular Ocean View & Sunset Terrace

  • Surrounded by the forest the house is set off the ground and has huge windows to give it spectacular views of the forest canopy and Nicoya Gulf. Big rooms and Queen size beds provide comfort, plus all the essentials and more are provided. The house is large enough for a family but also perfect for a couples romantic get-away. Located close to town but extremely private it is ideal as a base to enjoy all of Monteverdes attractions and is an attraction in itself that provides the peace to rest after a full day of activities.

    As mentioned the house is located on a large property, there are other rent houses on the property but out of shouting distance to provide each with privacy. Just up the road from the property there are several restaurants, a couple small supermarkets, art galleries and souvenir shops. Also in the area there are several attractions such as private reserves, a butterfly garden, night tours and others.

    The space

    The house is located on a 27 acre property which guests can explore as they wish, providing them the opportunity to see lots of the local flora and fauna without having to book a tour or drive anywhere.

    Interaction with guests

    Our hostess will confirm your reservation, meet you for check in and help with any questions you might have about the house, the area, tour options, dining suggestions on anything else you might need. We will leave you to yourself once checked in but are available at any moment for any questions or help you may need.

    Other things to note

    As a note the sofa bed lacks privacy because it is located in the living area but not comfort since it has a double bed mattress on it.

    This property has a security camera outside, facing the garage.

Beautiful home with lovely furnishings. Kitchen was well supplied with needed cooking items to make our meals, mostly used for breakfast. Daniella provided excellent tips for markets and restaurants. The location was great for getting to our tours at Curi Cancha and Monteverde Preserve. Loved the deck for enjoying our coffee in the morning while viewing the gulf.

Above the Gulf was such a gem! Nestled in the forest, overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya, this property offers more than just a place to rest your head. Above the Gulf is outfitted with beautiful wood furniture, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, and a fantastic wrap-around covered porch for wildlife viewing. The space was clean and well stocked. It is inside a gated community and utilizes outdoor security cameras throughout the property for peace of mind. The in-home washer and dryer came in very handy after our daily adventures. From the porch, we were able to spot local wildlife like toucans and coatis! Above the Gulf is truly a special place and a great home base for all of your cloud forest activities!

Daniella was wonderful, meeting us upon arrival to explain use of the house and the area. She even arranged a night tour with George who was absolutely wonderful and interacted thoroughly with the children enhancing the experience. Would highly recommend and definitely stay again if in the area.

Great Monteverde stay

Very comfortable property. Amazing views of wildlife. The add-on breakfast was some of the best food of our trip! Daniela an excellent host. Would stay again!

Location is hidden and it’s difficult to find at first however, the area is beautiful, away from the noises. Plenty of space, rooms are very nice, located near to several attractions, downtown area is a few minutes drive. Though there was wall fixed small fans, the rooms need a ceiling fan for better air flow. Overall it’s a great place to Experience.

Absolutely loved this property, would highly recommend, amazing views with local wildlife coming to visit. A short drive into Monteverde, and dining options and a small supermarket very close by. Daniela the host was lovely and very helpful.

The photos do not do this place justice. The place was well appointed and very clean. The beds were very comfortable and Daniella was an excellent and helpful host. Would stay again!

Beautiful spot. Very clean, lovely view, well equipped kitchen. Do note that the driveway down to the property is a bit steep, and might be tricky if you are in a sedan.

Host was welcoming and even left a sweet welcome note with some homemade banana bread. Host was communicative about the home and location. We had some difficulty finding the home, but that was due to it being dark by the time we arrived. It was pretty windy outside, so it was a bit chilly in the home (no heating system) during our stay. The host did give us a small space heater she had, which did help heat up one of the bedrooms.

Comfortable reality, remote perception

Amazing place to stay. All the comforts you’d need on site and a quick walk or drive to town, but it leaves you feeling like you’re kilometers from the closest person. Check in/out was very easy and convenient. Communication was excellent. Driveway may be bumpy but it’s not a problem (probably even with a 2WD vehicle).

Great View

This house worked well for our family of adults. It’s close enough to town but it feels like a tree house in the woods. Great view of the Gulf of Nicoya. Communication with the host was always quick and easy.
