Upper Apartment in listed Georgian Town House in South Central London

This 65-sq-metre (700-sq-ft) apartment has a generous size kitchen/diner/sitting room and two good size bedrooms - one that can be set up with twin beds or a UK superking double and one with a UK king double bed. There is also a sofa bed in the lounge.

The fully-equipped kitchen/diner/sitting room has tv, dvd, stereo, dishwasher, fridge, microwave/conventional oven, stove, iron, ironing board, safe, nespresso and expresso machine and cafetiere (French press).

Access to the Upper Apartment is via a communal hallway and staircase at our home called Griffin House – access to the stunning 250 sqm gardens is on ground floor
the gardens have different sections such as subtropical terrace with BBQ and large wooden table, the English garden with croquet lawn and sundowner bench, swing seat, daytime beds and the ponds garden with pond for turtles, fish, chicken, sunrise bench, summerhouse, zen area from ground floor . Please note that the access to the garden is through our private quarters and is only daytime possible.

The light and airy bathroom features a double Belfast sinks, plus a powerful shower/deep bath.

Pros - friendly property owners; ample space; convenience store across the street; on bus routes; good people watching; restaurants nearbyCons - it was a little further out of the way from major attractions than expected - about 45 mins for us because we were unfamiliar with the transit system; lots of stairs to go up and down - more than expected. All in all, quite a good place to stay.

I'm giving this place 3 stars because of the sofa/sofa bed and the key situation. The sofa was very uncomfortable as a sofa and especially as a bed. We could feel the springs on the sofa bed mattress, so had to layer it with a comforter in order to sleep. We were a group of 5, but we only had one key for the door. I would also say it's not great for toddlers/young children because of the furniture and glass table. The best thing about it is the location near the tube and Brixton Market.

Wir nutzen Griffin House für einen fünf Tage Trip nach London. Die schön eingerichtete Wohnung enthält alles was man für einen Aufenthalt benötigt und hat eine angenehme Größe. Aufgrund unseren vollen Programmes konnten wir leider nicht auf das Angebot zurückkommen den schön angelegten Garten zu nutzen, aber wir hatten zumindest einen guten Ausblick darauf.Die U-Bahn war schnell zu erreichen und auch die Supermärkte zur Versorgung waren sehr nah. Wer es noch frischer mag, kann natürlich den ebenfalls nahen Brixton Market nutzen.Die Gastgeber Nic und Ben waren sehr zuvorkommend und haben uns eine gute Einführung über die Gegend gegeben. Gerne wieder. ——————————————————————————We are using Griffin House for a five day trip to London. The beautifully furnished apartment contains everything you need for a stay and has a pleasant size. Due to our full programs, we unfortunately could not return to the offer to use the beautifull garden, but at least we had a good view of it.The Tube was quick to reach and also the supermarkets for supply were very close. If you like it even fresher, you can of course use the also nearby Brixton Market.The hosts Nic and Ben were very accommodating and gave us a good introduction to the area. Gladly again

Live like a local

Ok, you have to keep in mind the property is over 200 years old. Would recommend for the more adventurous traveler. Everything worked and was functional in the house. You have the whole private top floor which is cool. Good location close to all public transportation and have a grocery across the street. This is in a busy area of London so a lot of road sounds and the building next door was being renovated at the time with a bit of truck and construction noise. My wife would have preferred more of an upscale place but I liked the London feel.

Eclectic and fun!

Stayed 5-days in this fun flat with a friend. I believe the description is accurate for the lodging. Equi-distant from two major tube stations (Stockwell & Brixton) and you won't see any tourists in this neighborhood, it is pure locals. And that was nice to 'come home to' each day. There is an edginess to the area but Brixton is funky and urban - full of great eateries and shops. We did not feel at all unsafe and took normal city-precautions. Our only scare was seeing a red fox down the sidewalk when we arrived back at 10pm!The flat is top floor of essentially a Brownstone - you enter through the same door as the owner who lives on first/second floors. Three flights stairs so be forewarned ahead of time with your luggage (no lift). Another oddity is the washing machine is actually located with the owner so we ended up giving him our wash! Returned all dry.Lots of space and a well-equipped kitchen for any cooking and food prep needs. Bathroom came equipped with a large tub for relaxing soaks. There is a bit of city street noise with the front bedroom. We did not have time to utilize the garden space though it was lovely. Owner was wonderful with check-in, going over things in person and in general a source of knowledge of the area and things to do. I would stay here again - while the place could certainly use a little updating, it was perfectly suitable and felt like I was bunking at a friend's place and that felt better than a sterile hotel room.

Wonderful!

Very friendly and helpful hosts, lovely apartment and lots of good insight regarding the neighborhood and getting around London. We loved the dogs, Bruno and Mowgli! Initially there was some difficulty with communication through the VRBO platform but apparently it is due to some ongoing IT issues that are being ironed out. Once we were all on the same page there were no problems at all. Fantastic hosts, we truly hope to visit again! Recommended!

Jumping off point for exploring London

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this apartment---it was comfortable for our family of five (two adults and three teens), is located close to the tube for easy travel, and was within easy walking distance of shopping areas and parks. Bruno and Nico were wonderful

We had a wonderful time staying at the top level apartment for 4 days. Ben was out of the country on a holiday, so we only got to meet Nico and their adorable dog Bruno. The apartment was perfect for our family of 4. Our teens shared one of the bedrooms, and their Dad and I were in the master, the living area and kitchen was perfect for us to hang out together in and the Underground station was only a few mins walk from the apartment. The only reason I gave the neighborhood 3 stars is because it’s not centrally located in London, a bit more on the outskirts. For our family it was just what we were looking for, but others might want something closer to all the main attractions. We would definitely stay here again!

Space large enough for family of 4

My family really enjoyed our stay in the upper apartment. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating (even had chocolates for our kids). The location is easily accessible to the Tube, and the Brixton Village and Brixton Pop were a short walk away for shopping and eating. The entrance to the upper apartment is via the owners' living area. So in that sense, it is somewhat similar to a "bed and breakfast". It felt like being guests in a home (but the upper apartment has a lockable door and is fully contained). Highly recommended, and I was sorry to not be able to say "goodbye" to the hosts when we left.

Lovely flat that felt like home!

I spent months deciding on which flat to book for my family’s trip to London, and I definitely ended up picking the perfect one. The flat itself is clean, roomy, and comfortable. And we found the location to be perfect - it’s in a quiet neighborhood, but it’s so easy to get into central London on either the tube or the bus. Nico and Ben were both so welcoming and kind, and that’s what truly made the stay memorable. We enjoyed chatting with them in the garden, and my youngest loved feeding the turtles. And I can’t leave out Bruno, whom my kids all said was the best dog they met on our trip (and we did meet a lot!) If we’re lucky enough to make it back to London, we’ll definitely be staying again.

Bon emplacement, quartier tranquille

L'appart est situé dans un quartier plutôt tranquille, station de métro à 5 minutes de marche à pied, mais aussi des arrêts de bus juste à côté; qques petits commerces à proximité qui dépannent bien. L'accueil fut rapide mais sympathique; l'appart en lui même est un peu vieillissant et mériterait un petit coup de rénov; literie moyennement confortable; par contre on a bcp apprécié la vue côté jardin qui est une vraie touche nature dans cette ville. Les propriétaires sont souples au niveau du départ, on a pu laisser les valises et les récupérer plus tard dans la journée.

Great experience in a local neighborhood

The apartment is very roomy and had everything we needed for a family of 4. We liked having the experience of being in a neighborhood vs a tourist area. You do walk through the owner's part of the house to access the apartment, but the owners are very friendly and it wasn't an issue. We felt safe in the neighborhood.
