We recently stayed at The Gate London and overall had a decent experience, mainly thanks to the great location. It’s very close to the underground and within walking distance of the Tower of London, which made getting around really easy.
The room itself was good, and I really appreciated the complimentary tea and coffee, especially as it was proper coffee rather than the usual basic options.
However, there were a few issues on arrival that let it down. Some parts of the room weren’t properly cleaned. The cutlery still had old food on it, the glasses were marked and dirty and there was some gloopy residue in the sink. We also booked through Expedia, which advertised a complimentary sparkling wine in the room, but this wasn’t there on arrival. We had to contact reception to request it and also mentioned the cleanliness issues to make housekeeping aware.
While the staff sorted the missing drink, nothing else was offered or done regarding the cleanliness concerns, which was a bit disappointing.
Overall, it’s a decent hotel in a great location, but the attention to detail and service could definitely be improved to match expectations.
