"The hotel is in need of a major facelift. Old bathrooms with water damage to the floor boards. Old carpet and bedding. The staff however, is great. They even stayed up late for us at arrival. Overall good stay."

"Staff are incredibly helpful, pleasant and very accommodating. Breakfast is impressive. Location gives easy access to city centre. Very reasonably priced and good value."

"Nice hotel, walking distance to the blacksmiths and all the gift shops. The room was a little dated but very spacious and clean. I loved the little fireplace heater. The staff was excellent and I enjoyed the breakfast. The only issue I had was the lack of outlets near the bed to charge your phone. I attended a wedding at Gretna and the reception was held here, I really enjoyed the dinner!"

"Super clean room, was nicely designed & a warm welcome. Had dinner at the restaurant which unfortunately the service wasn’t great really slow & forgot one of our parties meal & drinks order (I would understand if it was super busy but it wasn’t) but they were friendly in general couldn’t fault that. The hotel was lovely giving really cosy vibes & the receptionist was lovely. Would recommend & the surrounding area is really nice for walks. "

"A great location and a very comfortable property with proprietors that were amazingly accommodating. Fingers crossed you get some warm cookies upon arrival and the breakfast is spot on even if you are not a vegetarian."

"Beautiful property and rooms. Excellent service. Highly recommend to anyone looking to stay at a boutique hotel close to Carlisle. The owner was friendly and gave us wonderful advice of things to do in the area. We will definitely return for another visit in the near future. 5+ STARS."

"The property is beautiful. The staff were very helpful during check in. Our room was in the Castle View Lodge and was very nice. The meals - dinners and breakfasts- were fabulous. The tour of the castle was very interesting and informative. "
