Beautiful Home

This was one of our best vacations yet! The place was impeccably clean when we arrived. It was family and dog friendly property. The owners even made us a welcome basket. There is plenty of room for a large family and everyone had their own space. You will need to bring your own beach towels and 4x4 wheel drive is a must. We would definitely stay again.

Beautiful House and location

The nicest beach house I've stayed in! It's beautiful and even better than the pictures. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need. The location is perfect. We saw horses frequently. You get beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The tiki bar/ pool area sets this home apart from all the others. You can't go wrong with the property!

Another Great Week at 4x4 Paws!

The kitchen is spacious and well-stocked for large groups, and the whole. We appreciated the new outdoor upstairs patio set this year and enjoyed many evenings on the deck. The place is perfect for our family (dogs included) and we will definitely be back!

Fun time at 4x4 Paws

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We stayed a week at 4x4 Paws. There were 10 of us with 2 babies and we were very comfortable. The views of the beach were incredible and it was a short walk to the water. The house was spacious, clean and comfortable. Be sure to pack water bottles, cleaning supplies, dishwasher detergent and all toiletries including toilet paper. Also, if you like to cook, you may want to consider bringing your own pots and pans. The house had them but they weren’t great and the carving knife was dull. My one complaint was that there was no way to make ice unless you bring your own ice trays. I really think that a house on the beach should have an ice machine and that was sorely missed. Otherwise, the charm and character of the house was great and my family had a wonderful stay.

We left it cleaner when we left than when we arrived.

Upon arrival, we were disappointed at how unclean and “unloved” the property was. You enter the code and excitedly wait for the garage door to open just to find very sandy beach toys, boogie boards and beach chairs. Upon entering the home, you can tell it hasn’t had a decent cleaning in quite some time. There was hair (like A LOT of long, dark brown, unmissable hair) in the shower drains. The front door, and other bedroom doors leading to the decks, didn’t appear to be power washed at any point in time. While some “wear” and dirt is expected (due to weather, etc), they were unexpectedly filthy and/or in need of a little paint/TLC. Throughout the week, several things were in need of repair.... the front left stove burner and microwave above the stove didn’t work, we lost more than half of the outlets in the kitchen due to a popped breaker from a malfunctioning toaster (we know this because when it was plugged into a different outlet, it popped that breaker as well). We were able to search and find one breaker box for the second popped outlet but couldn’t find the one for over half of the kitchen. I called to find out where the breaker box was but the office was unable to tell me and rushed me off the phone, saying they’d let the service dept know. I asked that we be called first if someone was going to come out. At least twice people entered the home unbeknownst to us to “fix things”...once a cleaning lady who left a note, and once a maintenance man who one houseguest walked in on when returning from the beach....and we never received and email, phone call or text before, during or after their entrance into the property. While it is out of the control of the owners/managers, the WiFi was out for most of the week (which sounds great on vaca, unless you have to actually still get some work done while away); HOWEVER, we had to call twice throughout the week just to get an answer as to whether the WiFi provider had been notified and if there was an estimated return of service date/time While it’s been some time, my husband and I used to come to OBX every year. All but one of those years, we rented through Twiddy and never had an issue. That one time we rented through a different company, we had similar issues as this time. Needless to say, we don’t plan to rent any houses through anyone else ever again, even if they look great online. All in all, we had a great time as three families vacationing together, spending long days on the beach.

Expectations

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location and view from the upper deck are great! I wanted to sit outside and enjoy the view, And have the opportunity to eat dinner, chairs are mismatched and too low to sit in and see over deck rails. No table. Attention to detail could make this a special area. Top deck rails are not safe. South side moves if touched. The home needs TLC. A deep cleaning is a must in the kitchen area. There was food on the backsplash in the stove area. Appliances are in serious decline. The 2 dishwashers don’t clean, and are past their life expectancy. Two ovens, one if filthy and does not appear to have been cleaned in a long time. The kitchen is sufficiently stocked, plenty of dinner ware and pots/pans. Several small appliances in kitchen closet are old and dirty, I would not use them. The kitchen is a make or break for me and it needs to be maintained. Family room and kitchen seating was good. Bedding was comfortable. But apparently comforter and pillow shams aren’t cleaned, they were left on beds at departure. Pool area is ok, but again no attention to detail. Tiki bar needs to be cleaned. Fridge was a plus for the area. I have been renting homes in this area for years. For the price I paid, I expected more. My expectations are high based on rentals in the past, this house was just ok. Attention to detail could make a huge difference.

Pool and hot tub were both nice and good condition. We had horses in our yard several times this week. Owner even left us a welcome surprise in the fridge :) Cant wait to go back..

We left a message but nobody ever called back. Luckily the back door was left open. When we went to grill, we realized the gas grill hadnt been cleaned in a long time, it was absolutely disgusting. It took us about 1/2 hour to clean One shower head was broken Hot tub was not clean and had a green tint to it Floors were not cleaned upon check in The bed sheets were dirty and hadn’t been changed

Capt’n Rook’s 2020

The house was very nice. We felt it was spacious enough for everyone and we definitely enjoyed being able to bring our dog. It was her first vacation and she loved it. The only issue we had and comment would be the gas grille. We were unable to use the gas grille because it was extremely dirty and starting to fall apart. Definitely recommend replacing it. We are very big on grilling so it was very disappointing. This is the reason for the 4 star on the cleanliness of the property the house was completely fine. Other than that we enjoyed ourselves very much at Capt’n Rook’s. P.S. The bar by the pool was done very well and we thought the owner had done an amazing job on it!!

Martin-Crain-Thomas Carova Stay

House was the perfect size for our 8 adults and 4 kids. The location is absolutely perfect. House needs a lot of work and updating but we got past all that. We had an amazing week and the weather was perfect. The Beach Realty staff and check in was awesome too. Our intent was to get away from covid19 and we never felt like there was a pandemic going on.

Large Home, Great Views, Needs facelift

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were happy with the location and amenities but were less than impressed to walk in to the house unlocked and a pile of dirty towels in the hallway. This signaled that the place wasn't thoroughly cleaned. There was mold all in the grout of the shower in one of the master bathrooms. There was a light out above one of the showers which made it hard to see while showering. We let the rental company know and they submitted a work order which amounted to nothing while we were there. Day 2 we had toilets and the kitchen sink start backing up. It took them two days to get someone out to address the issue. The inside of the kitchen cabinets were dirty which made me question whether the dishes were actually clean. The place had wear and tear from being a rental home where kids and dogs were allowed. The high chair that was provided was not functioning. The overall experience was fine because the location to the beach, the pool, tiki bar, ample bedrooms for our family and the ability for us to bring our dogs. We just wish the level of cleanliness was better. Lastly, make sure all vehicles have 4x4 because otherwise it will make it nearly impossible for them to reach the house.
