  • WANNA GET AWAY? Welcome to Teaches Retreat! Accessible by 4 x 4 only! Our cozy beach cottage set right behind the dunes where the horses roam free. Our 4 bedroom 3 bath home is the perfect getaway for you family vacation. Only a 300 foot walk to the beach! Just 10 miles from the end of the paved road you will find privacy and shade when desired and fun in the sun with our beautiful OBX weather and cooling trade winds. Located in the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge, you won't find the privacy and beauty of the beach like you will here on Carova Beach.

We absolutely LOVED our stay here. The location was perfectly serene which is exactly what we were hoping for. We awoke every morning to horses in the yard and loved the very short walk to the beach. John was wonderful at providing the insights we needed for traversing the beach for the first time.

Excellent! The drive down the beach is overwhelming, but all in all.. great..great time. Communication with the owner was excellent, wild horses roamed, and saw Dolphins from the beach.

Great location and great proximity to the beach

This is our third year staying at this property and we really enjoyed it. It's so close to the beach which we love. Great house that accommodates our family and another family perfectly.

Comfy getaway

Teach's Retreat is a comfortable and homey beach getaway. We truly enjoyed our time there. The kitchen is well stocked with towels, linens, pots, pans, utensils and plates. There is even a spice rack that has a little bit of everything.. The proximity to the beach is a real bonus that allows the early risers to go for a sunrise stroll and return without much hassle. Hope to return some day!

First Visit of 2025

Our second off season stay at this amazing property. It has everything you need to enjoy your time at the Northern Outer Banks.Many wild horse visits as well as some deer this time!The host are great & the property is everything described and more. This is are 1 and only family trip every year and we wouldn’t stay any where else! The location is perfect! Horses come through the property daily and the house has everything we need! The host is very prompt and helpful! We love it here!

Great vacation!

The cottage and location exceeded our expectations! The cottage was very clean and well stocked. We saw the horses everyday, either right at the cottage or on the beach!!! The most relaxing vacation we have had in quite a while. Hope to be back again next year!!

Perfect spot to see wild horses!

This house was clean, cozy and just the right size for our family trip. We wanted a private, non-crowded getaway and that is exactly what we got! We enjoyed the beach drive to get there, being so close to the beach and came just to see wild horses. We were able to see them every day of our stay and they were in the yard for quite a bit one afternoon! We had everything we needed

Very Nice escape

Although the weather was not the best, we still enjoyed our vacation, enjoyed walks along the beach. For my wife, the best part is when had visits from the horses, that was the selling point of the house her. The house is cleaned and maintained. The proximity to the ocean was very nice, even my dog liked that. I would recommend the property

Great location

This home is in a great location! Short walk to the beach was a plus considering it is the 4x4 area. We had everything we needed including supplies plentiful for the first day and decent sand chairs which was a first in the 20+ years vacationing in Corolla and surrounding areas. Great communication with owner also. Thank you.
