About this property

Entire place

Arrowhead Mountain Hideaway

Mountain cabin retreat, tucked between Gunnison and Montrose, amidst the towering trees and beauty of the San Juan Mountains, Uncompahgre National Forest and Gunnison Basin in the Arrowhead community. Perched at a cozy elevation of 9,500 feet, you will experience the authentic charm and simplicity of nature as you unwind by the crackling fire, savoring the peace and serenity that surrounds you. Whether you yearn for quiet contemplation or thrilling outdoor adventures, this cabin will beckon you to rediscover the allure of the great outdoors. We are in GMU 66 and COBDR 3.

Soak in the fresh mountain air and wildlife on the roomy deck, accessible with stairs or convenient ramp for guests needing mobility assistance. Our cabin offers comfort for up to 8 guests, with two bedrooms on the main floor, featuring a queen and king bed, along with a bathroom and a large loft area with a queen and full bed. Warm up by the wood-burning stove as you gather in the inviting living space, stocked with indoor and outdoor games. Whip up delicious meals in the fully equipped kitchen, stay connected with complimentary WiFi for working while you play, and unwind with your favorite shows on the Smart TV or enjoy a movie night with the DVD player. Whether you seek relaxation or adventure or are here to fish, hunt, snowmobile, x-country ski, snowshoe, ride the COBDR trails, our sunny cabin offers the perfect home base for your memorable mountain getaway.

We are not ADA compliant. We have taken steps to accommodate a wheelchair traveler and recommend there is also a companion for assistance. This cabin has a ramp and larger bathroom. There are also limitations for accessibility and I am happy to answer specific questions before you make your reservation.

Highway 50 Travel: Please be aware there is road construction for the Little Blue Canyon Improvement Project on highway 50 between Gunnison and Montrose Monday through Friday. The project normally takes the winter off. The online schedule is here: https://www.us50info.com/

Additionally in April 2024 there is a crack in a bridge crossing blue mesa reservoir that impacts travel between The Alpine Plateau Rd and Gunnison. However, there is a well travelled cut off that is currently open 2 times a day in both ways- county road 26. It connects highway 149 with highway 50 for a detour. The cabin is about 1 mile off Alpine Plateau Road which connects Hwy 50 and the Lake City area. We are 6.5 miles off Highway 50.

Spring/Summer and early Fall:
Guests enjoy fishing at private mountain ponds, abundant scenery with nearby COBDR trails, ATV routes, hiking, and biking trails. Since the lakes are private property you will not need a Colorado fishing license. Guests will also enjoy wildlife viewing and stargazing next to the fire pit or on the large deck.

On Saturdays during the Summer there is live music at the restaurant which also offers great food. Hours fluctuate depending on time of year.

Winter:
Winter is very special at Arrowhead as the internal community roads close to vehicles once there’s adequate snow. This is typically 12/1 - 4/15 and depends on the weather. Internal cabin community roads are open to snow machines, x-country skis, snowshoes and foot travel. Inquire before booking. When the internal community roads close, guests will park in the Winter parking lot and use your snowmobile, skis or snowshoes to scoot to the cabin. The cabin is about 1 mile (approx. 30 minutes to snowshoe) from the winter parking lot. The internal roads and winter parking lot are typically groomed but often covered with fresh powder snow. We recommend at least AWD in the winter parking lot due to snowy conditions.

ATV riding
Perfect location for being “out” but still close enough to all the cool things. The cabin was even prettier than the pictures IMO. The amount of things provided (croc pot, toaster, griddle etc) was very helpful. All around great stay.

Great setting to relax!
A great place to land for a weekend of relaxing after a very busy week of hiking and exploring national parks around New Mexico and Colorado. Location was very convenient to our last stop at Black Canyon of the Gunnison and our whole crew enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful and peaceful setting.

2 day stay July 10, 2023
Road construction on Highway 50 was severe. Evening full closures by 7:30 pm. Had I know in advance the only way into the property was through this highway, we would not have booked. We spent hours waiting in multiple road stops. Check this information before you go. We were not informed. However, the rental was super nice and our family enjoyed it. Upstairs bathroom was not available to use but our family of 6 worked it out.

A Sweet Seclusion
Wonderful stay. Was surprised being 6 miles up a dirt road, but was worth it once arrived. After seeing the lodge, knew we were on the right road ;-) What a setting amongst the aspens! Even though you see other homes, really didn't see many people during our stay. Did a lot of deck sitting as decided to stay put and avoid the Hwy 50 delays. So just enjoyed the singing and buzzing of birds. House was perfect for me as I had just broke my ankle so could move around on the knee scooter - the ramp and shower setup helped! Enjoyed a great dinner at the lodge.
