The first room we were allocated had a large ruck in the carpet that was a real trip hazard. The lady on Reception moved us to another room immediately and said the carpet would be dealt with. The second room was fine.
Breakfast was good and the atrium area and bar were both very pleasant with a relaxed vibe.
The location of the hotel was great, with plenty of shops and restaurants in easy walking distance.
We enjoyed our stay. However, we were aware that there were issues in the hotel due to the introduction of some new computer system. This didn't affect us during our stay, but when our journey home couldn't happen because of transport incidents and there were no trains at all to London on that day, we returned to the hotel and tried to book another night's stay. We were told that due to the new computer system they couldn't take any bookings and they didn't know if there were any free rooms. It was suggested that we try another hotel. A couple of hours later after trailing around Brighton with our luggage and failing to book an available room as we had no acceptable ID with us, one of the staff at another hotel suggested we try to book online through Expedia. We booked the Leonardo - not realising it was a different hotel until the reception staff looked at the phone booking. They kindly ordered a taxi for us, which was appreciated, and we were very happy at the Leonardo. We would have been happy at the Royal Leonardo if online booking had been suggested earlier.
