  • Welcome to Sheltering Oaks, a peaceful 3BR/3BA retreat nestled beneath ancient live oaks and sabal palms on Bald Head Island. Tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac at the end of a private driveway, this home offers privacy, comfort, and the perfect setting for a relaxing island escape.
    Just a short walk to the beach (under ¼ mile) and the Maritime Market (about ⅓ mile), you’ll enjoy both convenience and serenity.

    Thoughtfully Designed for Families & Friends
    The open floor plan creates an inviting space to gather after a day in the sun.
    Two spacious downstairs bedrooms, each with a private full bath.
    Private upstairs suite with full bath — ideal for kids or guests who want their own space (with a door at the top of the stairs for added privacy).

    Step outside and unwind:
    Rocking chairs on the welcoming front porch
    A screened-in back porch with dining table and rockers — perfect for morning coffee or evening dinners while listening to the distant roar of the ocean
    Weber grill for easy outdoor meals

    Your stay includes:

    Beach chairs & beach towels
    A record player with a curated vinyl collection

    The Magic of Bald Head Island
    Accessible only by passenger ferry and free of cars, Bald Head Island is a rare coastal treasure. Spend your days on pristine beaches, climb the historic Old Baldy Lighthouse, bike beneath maritime forest canopies, or enjoy waterfront dining overlooking the marina. Once you visit, you’ll want to return again and again.

    **There is an external security camera on the premises, however it is turned off while guest are staying.

    Also please note that there are wild animals on the island. It is not uncommon to see deer, turtles, frogs, toads, coyotes, snakes, and even alligators. Please be respectful of the wildlife and be sure to keep your trash in the designated locked trash receptacles!

This house was the perfect location between the market and beach yet on a private lot with a cul-de-sac and long driveway perfect for keeping kids and pets corralled. The owners were quick to respond to questions and couldn’t have been nicer.

This was a fantastic stay! House was very clean, golf carts worked great, host was super communicative and helpful! Loved the location, close to the beach and market but also secluded enough that it was very peaceful in the evening. Hoping we can stay here again next time we visit the island!

Great, quiet location!

Really enjoyed our stay. The location is ideal if looking to get away some place quiet and secluded on bald head. Also appreciated that the furniture/appliances/etc were fairly new, especially compared to many other houses we have stayed at on the island! Overall a very comfortable stay.

Great location, peaceful and close to the beach

Our stay was very relaxing, quiet home, close to the beach, fun for families! We enjoyed the beach, fishing, riding bikes and home-made and take-out meals on the screened in porch. The home is quite comfortable, we enjoyed the island wildlife, and appreciated having the dog along for the trip.

Perfect

This is the best house we’ve ever rented on the island. Perfect location, close to beach, in the maritime forest, close to the market. Seriously the best location. Place was spotlessly clean, and the host was quick to help when needed. Hope to stay here again and again.

Perfect location

We loved our stay at Sheltering Oaks. The location was perfect for going to the beach and getting to the market. We loved how it was nestled in off the road. It is a very cozy home. We will be back.

Beautiful, central, private spot

Perfectly located near the only market on the island and a quick cart ride to the beach. The house is clean, comfortable, and felt quiet and private amongst the palms. The host was very responsive to any questions. We would definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed a week of island time at this great location! The home is an easy walk to the beach & short cart ride to the market. We loved the decor & bedroom sizes & layouts. Beautiful home nestled under live oaks & palms. Highly recommend & we hope to be back!

Great location, beautiful home

My family of 5 (2 adults, 18 yo, 14 yo, and our doggie) had a wonderful week staying at Sheltering Oaks. We love the location (being so close to the market, shops, and ice cream store 😊), and the home is absolutely perfect. It felt very clean, well organized and stocked, and very nicely decorated. We definitely hope to stay here again in the future.

Cozy cottage

Nestled nicely on quiet forest street and conveniently right down the road from the market and Jailhouse restaurant. The house could use some updates but it was overall comfortable for a long weekend stay . The owner was easy to communicate with and accommodating .

Staying in BHI Maritime Forest

The property was a great size for us and it was stocked with so many things to make it feel homey. We saw birds and deer outside, but had all the equipment for a trip to the beach, which was 5 minutes away, too.

Easy stay for Senior parents

The house was great, well maintained. Great location, two minutes from the beach, we could hear the ocean at night. Long ramp and two large bedrooms on the first floor worked perfectly for my senior parents. What a blessing.
