We arrived around 9pm to check in and were asked for a credit card and photo ID. Without warning, the receptionist scanned and photocopied both my passport and credit card, which immediately raised alarm bells. When I questioned it, she said she’d delete the scanned email, but I found the whole thing very concerning and unprofessional — there’s no reason to copy full card details instead of using a secure chip-and-pin system.
The air conditioning in our room was also broken. Despite calling reception three times during the night, we were told it was controlled remotely and they’d try to fix it, but it never worked. The next day, with the room temperature sitting above 26°C, we called again and were finally moved to a new room where the AC worked properly.
The area around Queen Street felt a bit rough at night, with quite a few homeless people about, though that’s not the hotel’s fault. We did appreciate being offered a free late check-out until 11am, but overall, this wasn’t a pleasant stay. I wish we’d read other reviews beforehand — seems we weren’t the only ones to face AC issues and other unusual problems here.
