"The room was spotless and very comfortable. Obviously the Hotel is in transition. By and by rooms are being prepared to welcome guests. Only 11 rooms are available to book at this point. The price per room is unbelievably low. Especially since the electricity bill must be enormous. The hotel was overheated and lights were on in almost every hall, lounge and room and stayed on during the night. Heating as well as the lights. No consideration was given to the ecological impact. "

"Friendly and welcoming staff. Unexpected room upgrade upon arrival which was wonderful. If you want charm in a beautiful Highlands locale along the whisky trail, this is it. Dinner was incredibly delicious in the hotel's dining room. Their chef is out of this world. Bar has every whisky known to man ... kidding of course, but they are well stocked and knowledgeable. We stayed one night and wished we had booked a longer visit. It was meant to be a stop on our way out of a two day drive through...

A spring morning in April is an excellent time to visit Dunottar Castle on the north East Coast of Scotland, The daffodils are coming up and spring is in the air. At 5.18am the sun is breaking over the horizon. There is nowhere to gat a coffee and a bacon sandwich unless you drive south to Montrose and the Greggs the bakers opens at 7am. Bring a flask as the breeze of the north sea is bloody freezing in April, The Castle doesn't open until 10am, Built in the 1400's it played a major role in the Jacobite uprisings of the 1715 and 1745.
