Slide open the door of this lovingly kept kominka, a traditional Japanese country house, and feel time gently slow down. Dark wooden beams stretch across the ceiling, shoji paper screens filter the soft mountain light, and tatami rooms open one into another, just as they have for generations.
The heart of the home is the welcoming living and dining space, where a comfortable leather sofa, a handsome wooden dining table, and two adjoining tatami rooms invite you to gather, share stories, and simply be together. Thanks to its traditional build, the house stays naturally cool in summer, while air conditioning and heating keep every season comfortable.
When evening falls, the magic moves outdoors. Light the charcoal barbecue, gather around the firepit as sparks rise into the night sky, and listen: nightingales in spring, frogs singing in the valley, and on early summer nights, fireflies dancing nearby.
There is a rare kind of peace here. We look forward to sharing it with you.
★ LIVING & DINING ★ Sink into the sofa beneath the exposed beams, open the shoji screens to let the rooms breathe, or spread out across the two tatami areas, kitchen dining room, and a second dining nook with counter seating that overlooks the village, a lovely spot for morning tea. There is space for the whole family to relax in their own way.

But if the weather isn't what you had hoped for, you can have a barbecue under cover in the garage. It is well ventilated with walls on two sides and a garage door for privacy, keeping you nice and dry, yet open to the yard and mountain air.
