Situated directly along the 2.5-mile beachfront of Playa Potrero overlooking the ocean, Villa Potrero includes a professionally landscaped private garden with an oceanfront patio for sunset cocktail hours. A private gate opens to a sandy beach for casual walks, a dip in the ocean, paddle boarding, fishing or just watching the sailboats pass by. The bay has gentle waves that are calm and inviting with warm swimmable water. Your view includes the Catalina Islands 6 miles offshore, one of the most sought out scuba diving and snorkeling locations in Costa Rica. Dive boats can get there in 10 minutes. 6-seat golf cart rental available for $60/day, 4 door Jeep Wrangler rental available for $120/day. Let our on-site concierge take care of all the details for you for a relaxing and worry free stay. The concierge will coordinate optional amenities such as excursions, private transport to/from the airport, daily "house-mom" breakfast preparation, private chef services, on-site massage services, and local transportation (to excursions or nearby Tamarindo for example.) The Villa Potrero estate consists of a large main house comprising 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, 1 full kitchen and 2 kitchenettes. The home may be rented in whole to accommodate up 18 guests or the home can be rented as a 3 bedroom and a 4 bedroom separately - please inquire if one or another of these configurations is of interest to you. This listing is for the entire 7 bedroom home. The 4 bedroom guest suite and 3 bedroom guest suite can be reserved separately, inquire if either of these options is of interest to you. Villa Potrero is in a beach community within walking distance of several great restaurants such as Hemmingway’s, Nita Coffee, Cerveceria Independiente (Brewery), La Forketta, MerKdo (Grocery) and the sailing center. A few minutes’ drive takes you to El Tiki, Coco Loco, Surf Box (Coffee), Sentido Norte, and the Fruit Stand. So many great options nearby! The Flamingo marina is on the south end of the bay offering sunset cruises and world-class fishing.

Perfect House for Large Family Trip

We traveled with our 20-something kids and their partners - 13 total in our group. The house and grounds were perfect - plenty of bedrooms/bathrooms, spacious and varied common areas (where people could be together or find some quiet areas), a well-stocked kitchen (and big bbq), outside game tables, a pool with pool toys, and of course right on the beach with kayaks, SUPs, boogie boards, etc. We had a blast. Arturo, the concierge, helped with rental cars, airport transportation, all activities, and recommendations pre-trip and during the trip. Housekeeping was available throughout. The neighborhood is great. Are there glitzier houses for rent? Maybe. But this one was perfect - a 10/10 experience for us.

Perfect beachfront location

We knew nothing about this area before booking but fell in love at first site. The home was immaculate and well cared for. The onsite property managers were wonderful, responsive immediately and so helpful. The combination of pool and beach was perfect. We walked the beach to dinners and rented golf carts to explore further. Couldn’t have been better.

I can hardly put into words how incredible this home is. It truly exceeded all our expectations. The owner and the staff Arturo, Martin, Venite were helpful and genuinely excellent, going above and beyond to accommodate our every need. With a group of 10, we had some unique requirements, and the staff attentiveness and the care provided by the housemom Mary, Julie and chef Kattya made us feel completely at ease. We felt like we were truly at home. It was heartwarming to see how dedicated the staff was—they became like family to us. Every request was met with a quick and kind response, making our stay even more special. , and we can’t wait to return. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us; it meant the world to us. Slice of paradise

This home and location is a true gem on the beaches of Potrero - the upstairs with 4 lovely rooms each with a private bath was perfect for the adults in our group. The lower level was just the right set up for the 6 younger people in our group (ages 17-22). The pool was awesome for when we needed some shade or time away from the ocean. We walked the beach every day loved getting to the restaurants in town that way. Arturo and the rest of the team at the house were so great and available to help us in anything we needed. Highly recommend this home and hope we are able to return!

Beach Vacation

We rented this beautiful home with a group of friends. Convenient location to small market and restaurants. The kitchen was very well equipped, we made several meals and found everything we needed to cook. The house and outdoor space was large so we had plenty of area to spread out to enjoy our time. The house manager Arturo responded immediate to questions about activities and restaurants. Costa Rica Bucket List Friends Trip

Oh where do I even Begin..... Arturo, Martin, Poco (dog)!!!! We loved them all! They were there on a dime anytime you needed anything, including Poco (who meet us for breakfast down the street :-)) Arturo booked our catamaran and was very helpful when the catamaran people messed up our reservation...I reached out to Arturo he answered immediately and they jumped into action once they heard Arturo :-) I am in awe over the property, the kind people who came to clean up for us, the owner.....We will be back and I would stay no other place!!!!! Thanks again for everything and helping make our vacation, Unforgettable!!!!!

Great house on the beach

This is a great house right on the beach with great boogie boarding right out front. There were 10 of us ranging in ages from 10-80 years old. There was plenty of room. The house is well laid out and stocked with everything we needed. Communication was easy. The owner and property manager were very responsive. In all a 5-star experience.

Wonderful Xmas Holiday

Our family of 14 found the villa to be perfect. Plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms, and places to gather. There were two dining tables, one indoors and another outdoors, that accommodated all of us. Arturo and all the help saw that all our needs and wants were taken care of. The teens enjoyed the short walk into town. Fabulous holiday!

Trip of a Lifetime

Our stay at the Villa was incredible. There were 10 of us celebrating our father’s 70th birthday and was the perfect place. Very safe and clean. It felt like our very own private resort. • Location is a beautiful beach view and in the town of Portrero. Expect daily walks on a beautiful beach and the sound of the ocean crashing every day is meditative. • Villa is very clean and has housekeeping come in daily (Yuri) who is absolutely wonderful. The beds are comfortable and all linens are clean. • The great room of the house is perfect for big families – we fully utilized the kitchen and every room upstairs has a view of the sunsets and ocean. The dishwasher is a bit wonky and could be fixed or replaced. Also the great room’s air conditioning/ fan system is quite weak. Each bedroom has it’s own air conditioner and fan which is amazing, but the great room/ main living room/ kitchen area of the villa should get checked out because the fan and air conditioners are not very effective. • The rooms downstairs open up to the main level and steps away from the ocean, so you don’t feel like you are lower level or basement. The bathrooms are much smaller downstairs and definitely dated and could use a refresh. • The pool could use an update but we used it daily and is aesthetically beautiful. • Arturo and Martine were very helpful and responded quickly to our every need. • There is construction going on right beside us so that was loud at times

Family Birthday Celebration

We had a group from 8 months to 7o’s. We did have a lot of rain but was still a wonderful time! Arturo, Martine and Mari were great to work with! The house was kept super clean and any issues were immediately addressed! Arturo arranged a big dinner reservation, an excursion to Diamante, and was super helpful with road conditions and routes to get around. We would love to come back again!! Also great recommendation for Food!

Our Family Retreat

There are not enough superlatives to describe this home. The pictures are accurate, so you can see what it looks like, it's on the beach, it has a great pool. But what you can't see is Arturo, who is helpful beyond words, Martin and Benito who take care of the kayaks, paddle boards, golf carts and grounds and most especially, Mary who was our house mother. She cooked our breakfast and cleaned up after us, but most importantly, she knew us. She noticed on the first day, which child liked pancakes and which preferred rice and beans. She put my tea water on before I even got up, and once she alerted me to the fact that the baby was crying (the monitor didn't indicate that.) The house is fun, there are sometimes cows on the beach, we walked to Hemingways and to town, and to church. We drove the golf carts all over the place. We made it our home and we were sad to leave. Thanks so much.

Pura Vida

We brought our family of 17 to celebrate my 70th birthday. Villa Potrero was perfect in every way. Arturo and the rest of the staff were so friendly and easy to work with. We brought in a chef for one night (Kattya), and had a wonderful meal. We were able to do a family picture on the grounds and beach,(Paul the photographer was great). These were all set up by Arturo. Loved running around to town on the golf carts. Recommend renting them. Our sunsets were gorgeous! Every one of our family had an amazing time and would definitely stay again - besides Paco the house dog misses us already - he likes house treats. Our stay was for two weeks and was not long enough!!!

Great family stay

Our stay at the villa was perfect for our family of 17 + 2 others that joined us during the day. The pool was a huge hit and having the beach right outside the gate was amazing. Because of some recent storms the ocean was a bit cloudy and maybe a bit rougher than usual but we still enjoyed jumping the waves. It was hard to take out the boards and kayaks. Arturo, Martine, and Julianna were very helpful and responded quickly to our every need. We hired Kattya as chef for 2 nights dinner and she and her staff made our celebration very special and delicious! They were very helpful in suppling an estimate for our dinner which was very helpful because they wanted to be paid in cash. The house needs to be updated a little (ex- the dishwasher does not work and needs to be replaced. We washed a lot of dishes). I would definitely stay here again and our family had a wonderful time!

Family Vacay

We had the most wonderful family trip to Villa Potrero! From making the initial reservation to leaving the property - everything was seamless. We had a family of 14 (all age ranges) and this house worked perfectly for us. Arturo was an amazing house manager and with the help of Marteen, Benedito, Judy and Aaron, we were taken care of perfectly. This house is situated on a perfect part of the beach with the most beautiful view of the ocean from a balcony I did not want to leave. Town is a very short distance away. We rented a golf cart for the week, which was perfect. Judy kept the house spotless and made delicious breakfasts, Marteen and Benedito took care of putting out all the beach toys and chairs out every day, Aaron and his assistant prepared 3 delicious dinners for us, and Arturo handled transfers, excursions and all needs of the house. We love Villa Potrero. Full disclosure - the only thing that was a minor annoyance - a house is being built next door to the property which was a bit nosy at times but did not ruin our Pura Vida ! I highly recommend this property.

Nice reality break.

Overall a very nice place to get together and relax with our friends. The on-site staff were helpful and very friendly. The house itself is laid out fairly well for a group of people such as ours. It could use a bit of maintenance though. Nothing major, just a lot of little things like non-functional blinds, sticking/ non-latching room and cabinet doors, etc. Also slightly disappointing was that there were only two functional kayaks, a single and a double. There are several there in the rack but we were told that the others were all broken. We did have a group dinner with their private Chef one night. It was a very fun night for sure but unfortunately none of the entrees were enjoyed. The chef and her staff were wonderfully nice and helpful but all of the main dishes were overcooked and mostly not eaten. The sides and desserts were magnificent though. If you decide to try this, confirm pricing beforehand. We were charged for a larger group than we had according to their pricing sheet and there was a facilities charge added on that wasn't disclosed. Not a huge additional amount of money but being that it was not upfront, one person ended up paying everything that was additional. This is meant to be constructive criticism only, we really did have a great time in Costa Rica and this house played a big part in that. Especially the outdoor areas. The pool area was a huge hit.

Family getaway!!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay! My family of 8, 23 yrs to 65 years loved our time in Costa Rica! The house is beautiful and immaculate!! The location, yard and beach are breathtaking!! We all went for a daily sunset swim in the ocean! Arturo was great at helping to plan adventures and keeping the house and yard secure and beautiful!

What a beautiful place!

The villa and property are beautifully maintained! The house is very comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need! Our teenage grandkids loved all the sports gear and the beach right at our fingertips! We hope to go back!!

This house was more than enough space for a group of 10 friends. Very comfortable. Arturo was amazing and so helpful. Martin made sure we had all that we needed. Yury was so pleasant and attentive. We all talked about coming back to this property.

Perfect house for a large group

This rental was top notch for our big group of 14 adults. Very nice, cool, & clean. Judy provided daily cleaning for the place & she was wonderful! So friendly & worked so hard! The pool was great to have since, although the property is right on the beach, most of the group would not get in the pacific ocean with the dark sand & dark water. We are all white beach, blue or emerald water, want to see what's in the water atound us kind of people. Lol. But you can't go wrong with the property itself - you will love it!

Amazing Stay! 100 out of 10

We had the best stay ever. We hosted a very small wedding with our friends and the staff went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed. The house is in a great location with direct beach access and easy to walk to the little store and a few restaurants. The yard is spacious for families and activities and we had an iguana that would visit us daily. Arturo and the rest of the staff were very attentive to our last-minute requests. They were always there for us but not intrusive and they gave great recommendations. The chef services were delicious and they saved the leftovers for us to eat throughout the day. My husband forgot his wallet and Arturo drove it to the airport and we still had plenty of time to make our flight. He's our hero. We will definitely be back next year.

60th birthday get-together

The property was wonderful. We had 4 couples staying for a 60th birthday get-together. The bedrooms were very comfortable and spacious. We spent a lot of time in the pool and went boogie boarding and kayaking. We drove the golf cart or walked to town where there is a grocery store and restaurants. Hemingways is very good! The ladies enjoyed a nice breakfast one morning at Nita's Coffee. I don't know how Arturo does it but he managed to keep all our requests and questions straight! We had the chef and mixologist come one night. It was fabulous! great fun with the mixologist!! The guys went fishing one day and they cooked the fish they caught. Judy cleaned for us whenever we needed it. Martin and Paco (the dog) were on site daily. You will love it here!

Fantastic stay and wedding location!

Villa Potrero was a fantastic place to stay. The house was amazing and beautiful! It has all the amenities and and was in the best location close to everything. We hosted our wedding at the house in the back yard and it was absolutely amazing. The guests loved the space and enjoyed the mixologists that Cori and Arturo provided as well as the picturesque sunset. The house was plenty big enough for our entire wedding party.

Totally amazing!

Everything about this VRBO experience was amazing. Starting with Cori, the host, who answered my many questions promptly. The location of the house is right on the beach as pictured. Every morning Martin would put the paddle boards, kayaks, and life jackets right by the gate for easy access. There were boogie boards too. Arturo arranged our excursions, transportation, gave suggestions for restaurants. The sweetest lady would come every few days to clean. We had a chef and mixologist come one night. What a treat! We used the golf cart to get to the grocery store or explore the local area. We used the other car to take a ride to Tamarindo... the town was way too commercial for us. We were so happy to be back "home!" And the howler monkeys were in the trees right by the house several times...once at 5AM but so worth getting up for! The locals were very friendly. Take a walk on the beach to get to several restaurants and coffee shops. Arturo and Martin were easy to reach if anything came up while we were there. This is the 6th year our family of 13 has stayed at a VRBO and everyone agreed Villa Potrero was the best! It definitely exemplifies the Pura Vida! Hasta la proxima!

14 friends + Arturo = an amazing 40th birthday

We chose Villa Potrero to celebrate a friend’s 40th birthday and couldn’t have had a better experience. We are forever thankful for Arturo for organizing our chef experiences, transportation and excursions. Several in our group are already looking at rebooking for their next family vacation! Every employee of the property we encountered made us feel like family and wanted us to have the best Costa Rica experience possible. This place is a must stay!
