We flew into Clearwater to stay at this property and enjoy the white sand beaches of Clearwater. Much to our surprise this home was very unclean. Unreasonable amount of mildew in the showers, to the point of being unsanitary. There was hair on the bed. There was rust and food stains in and on the refrigerator, stains on the ceiling at the vents, dirt spots on the walls, etc. It was just flat out dirty. Very dirty. In addition, it had a very strong mildew or mold smell. It was in very bad condition when we arrived. My wife and I refused to stay there. Within 5 minutes of arriving, we knew that we were unwilling to sleep in that place. We would have slept in our rental car if necessary. We immediately contacted the owner. Much to her credit she owned the problem and contacted VRBO to get us a refund. We were able to find a nearby hotel within 30 minutes. We had a refund the next day minus the VRBO fees and local taxes. So, we were shorted approximately $300 and received approximately $900 in refund from VRBO. So, the owner/host handled it mostly correct. She didn't try to argue or make it difficult she was very apologetic and seemed to be genuinely unaware of the condition of the rental. She should have taken the $300 loss rather than us, but I take it as a lesson learned and a small price to pay to sleep somewhere that you are confident is clean and sanitary. Forewarned is forearmed.
