We enjoyed our overnight stay, was very pleasant , only negative comment was the bathroom was very small, food was ok , at breakfast they had run out of bread and was offered bread that had just been defrosted as it was still cold , but overall we had a nice stay

Hotel setting is lovely, grounds are very well kept. Hotel in general is very small and cosy, would have been ideal to have aircon in the rooms as it was mid heatwave when we stayed and the room just didn’t seem to cool. All staff members we encountered were really friendly and happy to help

The pool was out of action for our 2 day stay which was the sole reason we booked it. The breakfast was of average quality (I had the full English the Mrs a continental which was limited) Beds where fairly comfy but the rooms were super dated and furniture looked more akin to a university dorm than a hotel. Needs investment to get it back to prior glory I feel. Grounds where nice but again could do with a full time gardener and investment. The tennis courts are jow a car park!

Excellent location and lovely gardens! We really enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately there was no air conditioning in the room and as we’re experiencing a heatwave it was incredibly uncomfortable in a family room with 4 people in it! I called reception and they told he it had been broken for a long time. I know it’s an old hotel but this really should be a priority especially as we’re now in summer

We booked this last minute due to terrible service from another nearby hotel. The staff were very helpful, attentive and friendly. We had the cosy double room which is very cosy but it suited what we needed. It had a lovely view of the gardens. The only negatives for the stay was the light above the sink (which is in the room itself) didn't work and unfortunately the second night the dogs at the nearby farm were barking all night (this obviously isnt the hotels fault) other than that we had a great stay and would definitely go back.

The hotel and grounds were lovely, cosy lounges, comfortable rooms, food good, staff helpful and friendly. The bathroom in our room needed some attention, the bath was blocked, water took a long time to drain away. Swimming pool was cold and needed a touch up of paint. Overall we had a lovely stay and nothing was too much problem for any staff.

The rooms were so hot couldn’t be helped in this heat but couldn’t sleep art all , gave us a fan but it wasn’t much good , breakfast was ok but on the first morning run out of orange juice and coffee machine wasn’t working that well . On the Saturday there was a wedding party music was loud into the night nobody told us in advance

Nice hotel with friendly staff. Food amazing and reasonably priced. They allow dogs to stay which is a little annoying especially when guests leave the dogs to bark in room!

Stuck to find somewhere in the New Forest I widened the search to this hotel which clings onto the edge of the forest. It is more of a hotel for events (two birthdays and a wedding during our two night stay), so you do get to feel a little like a gate crasher. Very basic dining options but the food and service were pleasant enough. The hotel itself fitted the English country vibe I had wanted for my overseas friends, and the location was great allowing for easy arrival not far from the motorway, but everything New Foresty no more than 30 minutes away. The hotel cannot be blamed for the unnatural heat, but given our room got the full glare of afternoon sun it was impossible to cool down by bedtime, so some thought to closing curtains and windows for arrival if this is going to be our new normal. I’d far rather enter a dark cool room on arrival than a furnace.

**A disappointing decline since our last stay** We had a wonderful summer holiday at this hotel two years ago, which is why we chose to return this year. Unfortunately, this stay was extremely disappointing. Staff were often nowhere to be found. At around 8am, we repeatedly had to search for a waiter just to be seated or place our breakfast order, even though the breakfast room was almost empty, so this could not simply be blamed on staff being too busy. The water in the dog bowls in the reception and communal areas was consistently dirty and stale. The shampoo and body-wash bottles in our room were empty, and no one came to clean the room. Towels were not replaced, and fresh drinking water was provided only on the day we checked in. The standard of service and attention to detail has declined dramatically since our previous visit. It felt as though the hotel may be under different management. Sadly, we will not be returning.

I booked this hotel through Expedia based on the photos shown for the specific room type I selected. However, the room we were given was significantly smaller than the room shown in the Expedia photos. After checking, it appeared that the larger rooms shown in the photos are actually a different room type, which I found quite misleading. The soundproofing was also a major issue. The wall/door separating our room from the neighbouring room was extremely thin. We could clearly hear the couple next door being intimate, including their headboard repeatedly banging against the wall throughout the night. Unfortunately, the noise and vibrations were noticeable from our side as well and disturbed our sleep. The room is definitely not soundproof, despite what you might expect from a hotel of this standard. On the positive side, the hotel has nice decor and the staff were helpful and friendly, which I appreciated. Overall, while the hotel looks attractive and the staff were good, the misleading room photos and very poor soundproofing significantly affected our stay.
