Technically NOT A HILTON. (read to the end)
The sort of property that looks fantastic on paper, but... Built in 1999. Refinanced in 2005, Bank assumed control in 2009. Renovation in 2017, Foreclosure sale in 2019.
That explains the "deferred maintenance" items we spotted: bubbling paint in corners of the room, water damaged door trim in the bathroom. None of the doors fit correctly. the room entry door wouldn't positively engage the lock with the self-close mechanism without assistance. Closet rod mislocated so hangers hit the door if you actually push it all the way shut.
The way the room software assigns rooms feels like it prioritizes HR cost for cleaning staff over guest experience. Paid a premium for a room with a balcony - a balcony which opened onto...the central parking lot between the two wings of the hotel!
The *STAFF* was amazing - we wound up checking out early (forfeiting 2 nights of no-refund prepaid stay in the process) - when we mentioned we were checking out, they fell over themselves with concern, which I appreciated.
Looks *great* on paper, but the Santa Cruz Sentinel has a story from 2018 that says it's owned by "LNR Partners" and they're clearly doing the "Late Stage Capitalsm" thing and not putting a single extra penny into ensuring the hotel is maintained at the level you'd expect from a Hilton.
