Upscale Western Inn With Historical Distinction and Modern Comfort

Treat yourself to upscale repose at Velvet Woody - a boutique inn with historical distinction and modern comfort.

Located in downtown Okemah, Oklahoma – home of Woody Guthrie – this 1930s building has been thoughtfully restored with upscale western inspirations that nod to the places Bob Dalton and the Dalton Gang may have stayed while traversing the Wild West.

You'll be staying in Room 3: The Dalton. Ascend the building’s original staircase upon entering to a chandelier-lined corridor off which the inn’s six private rooms stem. Each room feature a king bed, private en suite bathroom, TV, and coffee bar with Keurig and mini fridge. Windows include velvet blackout coverings. The furnishings and decor - both antique and modern - were intentionally selected for each room with style and function in mind.

A shared lounge boasts a full kitchen, seating and dining areas and a shuffle board table. A shared laundry room with two washers and dryers is also available for use.

During the exciting renovation of this space, many of the historic architectural and design features were thoughtfully restored, including the doors, trim, and bannister, with natural crackling; exposed stone; and original wood flooring. Decorative tin ceiling tiles, vintage wallpaper and a custom wanes coat in the hallway add to the desired old western aesthetic.

Parking is on the street and check-in is contactless. Guests enter the building via smart lock, and room keys will be available in a key box inside. We do not have an onsite host, but someone is available if needed.

As we do try to provide as many amenities as we can and in order to keep our prices as fair as possible - we have reasonable additional guest fees, so please make sure the guest count is correct.

Cool Little Town

I rented this place two weeks earlier for a place to stay to watch a basketball tournament in another town, but this place looked cool, and the drive wasn't horrible. The week I was supposed to stay we had the blizzard of 2025, and I was unable to make it. It was past the time to cancel but the owners were gracious enough to let me have it on a weekend it was empty. Check in was easy enough just a door code with the key waiting. It's a very old cool building and I think they have six rooms to rent. All are different I bothered the cleaning lady, and she let me see two others she was cleaning. They're all different but roomy. In the morning went to Mosaic Grind Coffee for coffee and breakfast. It's about four or five doors down from this place. The coffee is great, and the ham and cheese croissant is really good. Met the owner's they're great people and talk about a cool building take a tour it's huge. About two blocks away all walking distance is a Mexican restaurant called Tacos El Palomo that was really good. There is a China Cuisine within walking distance too, but I didn't eat there. Need a drink? Right around the corner is Rocky Road Tavern a cool little bar with a lot of really nice people. If you ever have a reason to stay in Okemah or even doing something close, I'd recommend this place. Very reasonable rates and very responsive owners. There is a common area so this would be a great place for group get togethers too. Very enthusiast five stars.
