I chose Tribeca Hotel to save money compared even with reasonably priced hotel chains, and to my relief and delight, it also proved well-maintained in every respect: the plumbing works well, the shower is hot, there is a full fridge and a microwave, the desk is sturdy, the lighting good, and the staff courteous and responsive. As for the area, restaurants and cafés abound and the Financial District is ideal to sight-see and to stroll; it is also close to public transportation.
No, this is not a luxury hotel (I’d need a second job to afford one in NYC). There is no TV, though I’d gladly trade that fixture for the joy of staying in such an appealing neighborhood; the internet is fine for email, though not for large downloads; the room is cleverly arranged for comfort but is not large; the mattress is very firm (though I slept well). I find these concessions trivial compared with the upside of staying in a clean, pleasant, well-managed hotel in a wonderful neighborhood.
Overall, I would enthusiastically recommend Tribeca Hotel as a great value in relation to price.
