I made a big mistake booking with Bahamas Vacation Club for the Parrot Cottage at Viking Hill on New Providence, Bahamas for a 5D/4N stay in mid August 2021. BVC does a good job of photo shopping its marketing pictures and writing engaging copy that presents an impression of a five star property, when in reality it’s maybe a two star at best. My first impression of the property at Viking Hill was of a property that had been abandoned. The grounds and shrubbery were overgrown across the property, and there was considerable palm tree debris and coconuts littering the grounds. The Butterfly Cottage was located at the rear of huge old house, down a dank walkway and its only windows overlooked an old dilapidated part of the house and a unkempt courtyard with construction materials laying about.
On arrival, we waited for 15-minutes for our BVC representative, Cornelia to arrive with the keys. This was the first VRBO property that we rented with a total lack of current information on the surrounding amenities, such as restaurants or other things to do in the area. Viking Hill has no onsite staff, so guests were always on their own.
The following morning at 9:00 a.m., we were jarred awake with the sounds of power saws, electric grinders, drilling and the loud pounding of hammers that persisted until 4pm each day. This was the case during our entire stay at Viking Hill. In addition, Viking Hill had no sporting good or aquatic equipment available for guest use during our stay.
Cornelia said, she would primarily communicate ONLY on a What’s App platform and phone calls were not a good idea. We did receive some general information on What’s App, but it was outdated. We had to research on our own and find out what was available on New Providence island, and many things such as the Straw Market and Swimming with the Pigs were closed due to Covid.
Bahamas Vacation Club hands off attitude towards their guests made us very proactive in discovering new adventures on New Providence and things to do on our own by talking to local people. We could not find a relaxing environment at Viking Hill due to the continuous loud construction noise until 4pm, and serious lack of amenities. Also, we only had Wi-Fi only until around 9:45 p.m. each night
It was a big mistake in booking this property, so please do extensive homework before you book your next vacation getaway.
