Two six-bedroom Guest Houses with shared kitchen
Two recently renovated six-bedroom guest houses perfect for a close group of friends or small family reunion. Formerly a spiritual retreat you won’t want to leave this charming, one-of-a-kind place. We offer a place to hike, play games or just relax by the swimming pool. The scenic cliffs & forested hills remind of a simpler time & place. Deer, turkey & many other animals are frequently spotted. Take a little time & 'live in the countryside'.
We live on the ranch, about a mile away. We are available by phone or in-person to help make your stay a pleasant one.
Bluebonnets and other colorful wildflowers abound in this area in the spring. Chart your own course or use the ‘Bluebonnet Trails’ guide to map a route. ~ Go left or right from our main road, Lazy H Rd, and in 9 miles be cooling off in the Llano River. An additional 9 miles to the left and you can explore the historic town of Mason. This small town has plenty of history and two local museums. Antiques, collectibles, boutique clothing, custom hats or just plain ‘stuff’ can be discovered in multiple shops in and around the courthouse square. Tour the restored 19th century Hill Country landmark, Seaquist House, and historic Fort Mason which was established in 1851. The longest continually operating theater in West Texas, the Odeon Theater built in 1928, continues to show first run films (ticket price usually $4.50!), classic movies, live music concerts and performances. ~ Mason town square houses a number of good dine-in and take-out restaurants; the historic Willow Creek Café & Club, known for their year-round seasonally decorated holiday trees and Texas-size Chicken Fried Steak serves American fare, Joe’s Italian Restaurant, Cooper’s Original Pit Bar-B-Que, Nacho’s Café serving Tex-Mex, Santos-The Silerio Family Restaurant specializing in Toquitos, Rico Café (Tex-Mex breakfast & lunch only), James River Icehouse, and pizza at THC Beer Company and T. Bo’s Bar and Mercantile. ~ The Eckert James River Bat Cave, one of the largest bat nurseries in the country with a population of 4-6 million Mexican freetail bats, is located about 20 miles from Mason. Open from mid-May to mid-September an evening watching the bats fly out to hunt is an incredible experience. ~ The entire Central Texas area is home to award winning Texas wineries and cozy tasting rooms where you can lounge and enjoy the best of Texas wines. Check out the offerings in Mason at Robert Clay Vineyards Estate Winery, Murphy Creek Cellars, Sandstone Cellars Wine Bar, Parr Vineyards & Cellars, Fly Gap Winery, Peters Prairie Vineyard, and Blackmon Wines. For the Craft Beer lover visit Bear King Brewing Company or THC Beer Company. ~ Fast food options include Subway, Dairy Queen (every Texas town has a DQ), Laredo Taco Company, Mason Sno-cones, and Mason Donuts. Excellent coffee and pastry can be found at La Copa Joe’s. ~ The German town of Fredericksburg is 45 miles down Hwy 87. Known for great antique and boutique shops, wonderful restaurants, multiple festivals, and small-town Texas charm this historic destination is not to be missed. Fredericksburg boasts three amazing museums: National Museum of the Pacific, Admiral Nimitz Gallery and the Pioneer Museum. ~ Kerrville is also nearby at only 45 miles where you can kayak or paddleboard on the Guadalupe River, visit a nature center, or picnic on the riverbank in Schreiner Park. ~ Nearby Junction (27 miles) is listed among the top 100 disc golf courses in Texas with three 18+-hole courses. Junction is also home to South Llano River State Park with kayaking, tubing, hiking, and fishing.
Legacy Ranch is 486 acres of semi-rugged Central Texas hill country. Numerous trails and hunting roads lead through the property to beautiful overlooks, ancient streambeds, and hidden creeks. You may collect rocks, etc. without disrupting the natural area. Maps are provided in your cabin and on the wall at the Rec Center. This is country hiking---wear comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes, take water, a whistle, and a map. You may see wildlife; road runners, squirrels, deer, snakes, porcupines, racoons, etc. For your safety, please DO NOT approach wildlife. ~ A stunning ancient oak tree shades the pool area and Recreation Center which are for the private use of our guests only. We have two guest houses on the property (which are most often occupied) so you might share these areas with one other small group. The pool area is generous with enough room for family gatherings, including several large patio tables and chairs, and both a charcoal grill and a propane grill. It is conveniently attached to the Rec Center which has central AC/heat, bathrooms, a full kitchen with cooking and dining supplies, a washer and dryer, and a cozy seating area in which to relax. The Rec Center activities include a pool table, ping pong, air hockey, foosball, video & arcade game, card tables, board games, books, and corn hole. ~ A lifeguard is not provided. Swim at your own risk. Children under 16 must be supervised by an adult at all times. Pets are not allowed in the pool. Flip flops are recommended for the deck area. Beach towels are provided in the Recreation Center. Please do not use towels from the house at the swimming pool.
Each bunkhouse sports 6 unique, private rooms w/ beds ranging from twins to kings. Each unit has 2 gender specific restrooms, each with 2 showers, 2 sinks & 2 toilets. A stocked coffee bar and small refrigerator provides an early morning first brew. The fully-equipped shared kitchen & BBQ grills are steps away in the recreation center where you have your choice of indoor dining or outdoor poolside dining under ancient live oak trees. ~ Sunrise Guest House: Room 1 King, Queen sleeper sofa Room 2 Queens, Double (full) Room 3 Three Twins Room 4 Queen Room 5 King, Double (full) sleeper sofa Room 6 Three Twins ~ Sunset Guest House: Room 7 Queen, Queen sleeper sofa Room 8 Two Double beds (full), 1 Twin Room 9 Queen, Full, Queen sleeper sofa Room 10 King Room 11 King Room 12 Queen

A dog enclosure is located in the yard under a shady tree should you wish to use it. ~ Smoking of any kind is NOT allowed in the guest houses or in the Recreation Center. Please smoke outside, away from the doors. To keep our natural area clean and reduce the chance of a fire, a cigarette butt receptacle is located on the porch. Please use it! ~ A fire pit is located at the Recreation Center for your use. To minimize the risk of pests and infection you MUST purchase firewood from us for $20 per large bundle, if you want a campfire. Kitchen is equipped with smores sticks for your convenience.
