Take a step back in time to the Old West. It doesn't get much more atmospheric than this, folks. A real piece of West Texas history, La Casa Vieja is a gorgeously restored home in Marathon, Texas that was originally an old farmhouse built in 1917. Now, more than 100 years later, it is a beautiful little hacienda, complete with a casita at the rear of the property that can accommodate additional guests. Located at the foot of Big Bend National Park and just a few blocks from the world-famous Gage Hotel, this property is a stunner. With custom woodwork throughout, this delicately-appointed 950-square-foot home sits on a corner lot and offers a beautiful enclosed private patio/courtyard for privacy. Surrounded by pretty, native desert vegetation, the custom features of this home are far too numerous to mention. Here are a list of just some of them:

Great and timely communication with host. Perfect location for trips to Fort Davis, Alpine, and Big Bend. Downtown Marathon was an easy walk from the house. Felt completely safe with lots of peace and quiet around us. Highly recommend this property.

Check-in was super easy! The house and casita were exactly what we were looking for!! We especially loved the closed in porch for our morning coffee. The location was perfect for our daily trips to explore Big Bend and Ft. Davis.

Good property during cooler months

Lovely and well designed home in Marathon. Bathroom in main house was wonderful. Home does not have central air/heat which is only an issue in the summer months. Bedrooms have window units which get the job done but are noisy. We usually stay at The Gage but needed more room on this trip. Would book again during the Texas winter.

Loved the Casa! Unique property which is what drew our attention. Courtyard was wonderful, sat out there a couple of evenings. Home was very cozy, enjoyed it very much.

Great place in Marathon!

Home is beautiful and perfect for our family of four. Marathon served as our ‘basecamp’ for big bend (and Marfa) - only regret is. Or staying an extra day to relax and enjoy all the home had to offer!

Big Bend Family Vacation

La Casa Vieja worked out great as our home for our family trip to BBNP. The home was a great fit for my family. My teenage sons liked having the separate casita to stay in. We had great weather to hang out in the courtyard by the fireplace in the evenings.

Cozy Escape

The house is very cozy, with a touch of rustic, southwest charm. I spent four nights and enjoyed exploring Big Bend NP, the nearby town of Alpine and the quaint town of Marathon. It is a beautiful 60 minute drive to Big Bend. I wish that I had had more time to spend on the very private outside patio, enjoying the dark sky. The house was very comfortable, adequately equipped, clean and safe.

Peaceful and quiet

We absolutely loved staying at La Casa Vieja. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Loved the courtyard! Each night we would build a fire and enjoy the peace and quiet. We would definitely stay there again.

Lovely property

Stayed for 4 nights in Marathon at this cool place. Loved the walking accessibility to Gage properties. The house and casita were nicely appointed in Texas desert style, bed was comfortable, shower spacious, water hot, and kitchen had the things we needed. We really loved the patio!

Great Place

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Marathon. We couldn’t have asked for more and loved the convenience to Big Bend National Park. If we get back to this area we would definitely stay here again!
