The Neighborhood:

The Sugar Beach area is a quieter counterpoint to central Kihei, with a long beachfront for walking and swimming. Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge is close by when the family needs a break from the beach. Maalaea Harbor offers ocean excursions and the Maui Ocean Center, while Kihei’s cafés, markets, and Kamaole Beach Park III are south along the coast. It is a useful launch point for families who want several South Maui options without changing hotels.



Getting Around:

Kahului Airport is about 20 to 30 minutes away, an easy drive down Maui's sunny south shore. A rental car is recommended to make the most of Kihei's many beaches, shops, and restaurants spread along the coast. Some stretches near South Kihei Road are walkable to dining and shopping, while beaches are often just minutes away. Parking is typically available on site, in lots, or along nearby streets.
