Stekkar - Cozy Log Cabin on the Golden Circle, Warm and Welcoming Spa Facilities

  • Stekkar is a charming and fully equipped log cabin with an additional chalet. The main house has two beautiful bedrooms with double and twin beds and an extra sofa bed if needed, also a spacious and cozy living room and kitchen. Together with the features of the separate chalet, offering an additional bedroom, a Finnish sauna and a fully equipped bathroom, it makes the vacation effect perfect. The geothermal tub is located in the terrace between the two cabins.
    The geothermal underfloor heating provides comfortable temperatures day and night, in winter and summer. The 5G WiFi offers a good connection for internet and TV.
    From the house you have a magnificent view over the vast open area and farmlands with a beautiful view on the mountain range and the second largest glacier in Iceland, "Langjökull".
    In Stekkar you have very good access to all kinds of attractions and activities in the surroundings: first class geothermal baths and swimming facilities, horseback riding, trout or salmon fishing (summer), golfing, river rafting (summer), great culinary sites including the tomato restaurant "Fridheimar" and mushroom restaurant "Farmers Bistro", not to forget mountain hiking and snowmobiling.
    In Reykjavik, which is just over an hour away, you have the opportunity to go whale watching and deep sea fishing - ideal for self-catering!

    Are you heading West or North? We also run the quality cabins "Hamragil" close to the town Akureyri up North (Vrbo rental No 3925011), "Tvera" at the south coast of the Westfjords (4084081) and "Brekka", right at the bay Hvalfjord, just north of Reykjavik (9257064).

We loved our stay at Stekkar. The check in process was smooth and the host was helpful throughout our stay. The hot tub and sauna were a nice touch and the location offered wonderful long sunset views. The kitchen was well stocked for basic cooking needs.

Absolutely fabulous, warm and cozy house, fantastic hot tub and sauna. Perfect location for thee Golden Circle and a short drive from the lovely Secret Lagoon. See the Aurora from the hot tub with a glass of wine!

This was the perfect cabin for our home base while in Iceland. The cabin is far enough away from the city so that can truly experience Icelands nature yet close enough to attractions. The geothermic hot tub and sauna were amazing at the end of each day. Jb was very easy to contact. It felt like home while there. Also the view of the northern lights from the cabin were spectacular.

A wonderful location and high quality accommodation. JB was an excellent host and very responsive. We loved the views and hot tub! Cannot recommend this highly enough!

The home was as described in the listing and the hosts were very easy to communicate with. Everything was very clean and comfortable and the location was ideal to get to many parks and sites.

Beautiful Home Beautiful View

Well cared for, very clean with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. It is well located for the Golden Circle and centrally located between Vik and Reykjavik for other attractions. Beautiful views can be sent from the hot tub. We would return.

Beautiful vistas and wonderful stay

The highlight of the home is the geothermal hot tub overlooking vast Icelandic farmland with a backdrop of a glacier in the distance. Good location if you rent a car and don’t mind driving a bit. Overall a wonderful stay!

Stayed with family of 6. Perfect accommodations for our group. Home is in a great location. It is beautiful inside and out. Very well taken care of property. Bónus was view of the Northern lights. Would highly recommend staying here. Great overall experience.

Großartige Lodge

Wir waren im April 10 Tage in Island und waren mit der Unterkunft super zufrieden. Sehr gemütliches Haus mit allem was man braucht, top sauber, bequeme Betten und ein Hot Tub mit mega Aussicht. Auch der Kontakt zum Vermieter war sehr nett und unkompliziert. Klare Weiterempfehlung, wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen.

Lovely

The pictures don’t show how beautiful the view actually is. It’s amazing. Very nice cabin and the hot tub was the best. We had a great time In Iceland and this beautiful place added to the magic of it all.

Home away from Home

The place is perfect after a long day of exploring. It has everything you need. Jon is amazing at communicating and making your stay perfect. The location is about 20 minutes from the main road so be prepared to drive but this is the case wherever you stay in Iceland which is bigger than most anticipate.

We had a wonderful week staying at this property the last week of May. Two young adults had their own bedrooms in the main house, while the parents had the separate cabin. Having a full kitchen was important to us. We cooked all mornings, made picnic lunches, and cooked 5 of the 6 nights. Basic staples (spices, oil) were provided. We wish there had been some measuring cups but we made due. The living space was used nightly for games and hanging out. We appreciated having the laundry room and used it twice. The sauna was used daily. While the hot tub has the most beautiful setting, we found it difficult to stay in for long because it didn’t stay hot enough. The location is fabulous if your goal is to stay primarily in the Golden Circle. We saw all of the local sights and the access to two wonderful hot springs was a bonus. The owners manual provided great ideas for favorite local spots to visit which was appreciated. The drive to Fluoir is 8 minutes if you need groceries or alcohol. After spending our days exploring the beautiful sights, we looked forward to coming back to the house for the remainder of the day. We highly recommend staying at the Stekkar Lodge.

Iceland Family Vacation

Our trip to Iceland was a long anticipated vacation our family was excited for and Stekkar Lodge was the perfect starting point! The lodge was ideally situated for our day trips on the Golden Circle and the perfect place to relax and recoup on our return. The lodge was clean, comfortable and warm and had everything we needed. Jon was a responsive and helpful host. We couldn't ask for more.

Absolutely spectacular property!

We loved our stay at Stekkar Lodge. We had more than enough room for 3 adults and 3 kids. We made the most of the location on the Golden Circle, with so many great sites nearby. We really enjoyed soaking in the hot tub at the end of long days sight-seeing. Jon was very responsive and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend this property; it's even more breathtaking in-person!

Wonderful stay

We had a wonderful 3 night stay in Stekkar Cottage. The cottage was spotless when we arrived and check in was very easy. My two teenagers were both happy to have their own rooms. My college aged kid stayed in the guest house, which has its own bathroom and a sauna. The hot tub was a great way to end the day, with a glass of wine enjoying the beautiful view.

Incredible stay!

We had the most wonderful time at Stekkar Lodge. The photos really do not do it justice. The views are breathtaking! The lodge is very well appointed, and the hot tub is incredible. We loved having two separate spaces for the two families that were traveling together. Jon’s communication was flawless, and made everything a breeze. We would LOVE to stay here again.

Simply gorgeous

We were allowed to stay in the house for 11 days. It is ideally located for excursions to the most famous sights. You have a great view from the hot tube. The sauna simply invites you to relax after a long day of hiking. The house is large and has everything you need. We had a very pleasant communication with the host and received a lot of information before our arrival. We can highly recommend the property!

Very cozy, great views!

The self check in process and communication was very easy & efficient. The host was very responsive. The combination of the Sauna & hot tub was amazing. The kitchen was well equipped and it was a nice touch having robes & water shoes provided. Thank you very much for an amazing stay, highly recommend this cottage. We enjoyed the many thoughtful touches to make our stay comfortable. We wish we had checked out this host’s other locations around Iceland.

Sejour parfait !

Nous étions 4 adultes et 1 adolescent et nous avons passé 8 nuits à Stekkar Lodge en février 2025. Tout est parfait dans cette location ! Elle correspond en tous points à la description. Très bien équipée, rien ne manque ! Cerise sur le gâteau : les aurores boréales 4 soirs de suite sans bouger de la terrasse ! Le jacuzzi le soir après une journée de visite est un pur bonheur. La communication avec Jon a toujours été facile et rapide. L'Islande est un Pays magique. Séjourner à Stekkar Lodge aura fait partie de la magie !

Accidental Delight

I thought I was booking a place near Reykjavik -- guess I didn't understand the distances on the map! Well, Fludir / Stekkar turned out to be a much better location. It was central for the sites we wanted to visit (waterfalls, Geysir, Black Sand Beach, Lava Center, Thingvellir, Heimaey, etc.), and surrounded by amazing scenery. The photos in the listing don't do justice to the view, which is spectacular. The lodge was cozy and comfortable. Property manager Jon was easy to contact, and quickly dealt with the one very small maintenance issue we called to his attention. We would happily stay at Stekkar again.

Beautiful place - excellent hosts!

Jon and Auja greeted us with some local pastries and a hot cup of coffee after helping us up the hill through a recent snowstorm, so we got off to a very friendly start. The place is beautiful and the view is amazing. We had a chance to relax in the hot tub and see the northern lights! Can’t beat the serenity and joy of the cabin and the location was great to see some of the great sights in the area like Geysir and the Secret Lagoon. Can’t say enough about how great the hosts were - Jon went above and beyond to help me rescue my car from the snow both direct using his 4x4 and from afar by arranging for help from a neighbor. Literally saved us to be able to make our flight on time! 100% recommend staying with Jon here or any of his properties!
